  1. My guess would be a defective burned ISO. Try burning the ISO you used to install Mandriva again at a lower speed
  2. I have never used the 3D desktop, so I do not know how to disable it. I believe you are correct, 3D effects are not compatible with the nv driver. Can you disable 3D desktop effects running XFdrake from the command line (as root)?
  3. To restore the video to its original status, you will need to edit the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf Look for the device section and change "nvidia" to "nv" Section "Device" Identifier "device1" VendorName "nVidia Corp." BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce2 DDR (generic)" Driver "nvidia" Option "DPMS" Option "NvAGP" "3" Option "IgnoreEDID" "1" Option "RenderAccel" "0" EndSection Then you will need to reboot.
  4. FF3 uses a unique theme for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
  5. For your sound problem, is the volume control in KMix set to zero?
  6. Do you know how to install software from the repositories? I think you need to install newt to run whiptail.
  7. Run k3b from a terminal (konsole). This will allow you to view error messages that you would not normally see. What kind of error messages do you see when you try to burn a dvd?
  8. I can view the jpeg with FF3 and Mandriva 2008.0
  9. Thanks David. I have done the same.
  10. I have been using these sources for my 2008.0 install for several months: ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distribut...ia/main/updates ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distribut...contrib/updates ftp://mirrors.usc.edu/pub/linux/distribut...non-free/update It appears that usc has removed these, as now the directory mandrakelinux does not exist. Does anyone know if this repository is permanently gone, or is this a temporary thing?
  11. I too have had trouble with PS/2 - USB adapters. Your best option is to buy a PCI card with additional USB ports attached to increase your USB capacity.
  12. mcc is Mandriva Control Center. Type mcc from the command line to bring it up or (in KDE): Menu Tools System Tools Configure Your Computer If you configure your repositories of software as described in the link given by medo3891, you will find the java rpm file listed from within mcc under Software Management.
  13. I don't have a matrox card or two monitors, so I can't offer you any direct advice. I would have a look at /var/log/Xorg.log to see what kind of errors are posted.
  14. viking777: have a look here for a possible fix to your font problem https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...034&hl=font
  15. fisher: What Greg2 said, run FF3 from the command line and see what error message results. viking777: I am not having any font rendering issues with FF3 either.
  16. if you run mdkapplet from the command line, does it bring up the applet icon? If you right click on the icon, is there an option "launch at startup" ?
  17. my folder has a file named mdkonline with these contents: AUTOSTART=FALSE LASTCHECK=Tue_Mar_11_17:17:26_2008
  18. Well I disabled the automatic checking for updates when I installed 2008.0, and I can't remember how I did it so that I could tell you how to undo it Anyway, from a quick search on the web I found: edit ~/.MdkOnline/mdkonline, and change the AUTOSTART=FALSE to TRUE Does this bring back the applet on startup?
  19. I observed this problem with Mandriva 2008 as well. The solution is discussed here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/sl...9701/page2.html To eliminate the vertical refresh rate number discrepancies, add the following to the Screen section in xorg.conf: Option "DynamicTwinView" "false"
  20. This is from http://beranger.org/ Maybe it is of some help.
  21. Hmmm. Both web pages appear similar to me in terms of font quality. Are you using KDE or Gnome? I am using KDE and I have enabled anti-aliasing with a hinting style of "slight" from within the KDE Control Center.
