  1. Good advice Ian. I was going to suggest that Sunwatcher edit his xorg.cong file and add an appropriate modeline, but I like your suggestion better.

  4. It will be once you set up urpmi. K3b is a great package
  5. Have a look in /var/log/messages to see the nature of the messages being logged. This will help diagnose the original cause of your problem. (tux99 has got there before me!)
  6. use rmdir to remove a directory
  7. 8. If you run /usr/bin/nvidia-settings do you get the NVidia display settings gui?
  9. Welcome! B) If you install Mandriva over a older version, you will be given the option to make new partitions, thus deleting all that is in the older partitions.
  10. If you use this, do you get the logo you are looking for? Section "Device" Identifier "device1" Driver "nvidia" BoardName "NVIDIA GeForce 9300 and later" Option "NoLogo" "false" EndSection
  11. You don't need an expensive, powerful card. I am running Mandriva 2008 with compiz on two computers with low end NVidia cards: GeForce4 GeForce FX 5200
  12. I did a little research. From this thread: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=162752 If this post is accurate, it would appear your hardware is not adequate to run compiz. You need to purchase a higher power video card.
  13. The best places to get help are here and the official Mandriva forum (http://forum.mandrivaclub.com/index.php?op=En) Have you tried running KRandRTray to set your resolution? (under System Tools in the older Mandriva I am running) You do have the NVidia driver installed correct?
  14. Sad to hear this news. I have been impressed with Adam for a long time.
  15. I had a look at the Mandriva Club Forum. This thread suggests you might have some luck if you install the older i810 driver: http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=...highlight=945gm
  16. Welcome to the board! Well the first thing I would do is locate a 2008.1 version. The linux world moves quickly, and there have likely been many hardware related improvements, especially concerning laptops. Are you running KDE? Can you run KRandRTray under System Tools to change your screen size?
  17. xboxboy: So you are attempting to use onboard ethernet? It might be easier to use an (inexpensive) ethernet card. My ethernet cards have always worked without fiddling with Mandriva.
  18. scarecrow is telling you that your version of Mandriva (2008.0) does not have the latest nvidia driver 177.80. If you want to install this driver you will need to download it from nvidia's website. If I were you I would try to install 2008.1 or 2009.0 instead. These versions will certainly have newer drivers that may work with your card.
  19. The binary is (usually) the file name. For example, when I run firefox I type: /opt/firefox/firefox
