Any idea where I can find up-to-date documentation on hylafax. Not like their website, that specifies a 33.6 modem as a fast modem.

Hi guys I still need some help *bump*
-
I got a newer modem driver from linmodems.org. I got one for my kernel specifically. It still gives the "Sorry, we support only 2.4 and above kernels. " error, but I can dail the modem to my ISP now. I will set up efax to test the faxing. Can anyone help me with how to configure the PCI modem in hylafax

I'm trying to set up a fax server. I want to use HylaFAX ( give me a better alternative if you can,PLEASE). I have two incoming fax lines going into 2 PCI internal FAX modems. I also want to add a 3rd external modem for outgoing faxes. I have been having problems at EVERY turn. My current problem is: I DON'T KNOW ON WHICH COM PORT MY PCI MODEM IS YOU STUPID MODEM CONFIG SCRIPT!! I read some thing about adding a modem on "ttySx". I have NO clue what that is. harddrake picks up my 2 internal modems (Conexant HSF 56k data/fax/voice/Spkp (w/Handset) Modem Worldwide SmartDAA), but when i want to configure them using harddrake I get the following error: Sorry, we support only 2.4 and above kernels. I'm running mandrake 10.0 CE I don't know if this problem affects my first. I have been Chewing on this problem for 2 whole days PLEASE HELP

How does runlevels work?
Sapphiron replied to Sapphiron's topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
Ok I tried this and it did not work. I thing my script wont run from the startup folder. Is there somewhere I can put a command to run the script from it's original location. Note that I want to run it when the pc starts up (before login) -
Can anyone explain to me how the runlevels work. I want my mandrake to run a script at startup. I already put the script in the "init.d" folder and made symbolic links from the rc3.d and rc6.d (an example told me to do It this way). I understand what I'm doing up to that point, but I need clarification on two things 1. What is the differences between the run levels 2. Why are all the links named with a K80<filename> or S01<filename>.

How do I not run the GUI by default
Sapphiron posted a topic in Command Line, Kernel and Programming
I want to use a box as a server, so I don't want the GUI to start (and use up resources) When the PC restarts. Can I change the settings so that the GUI only starts when I give it the command? What would that command be? -
That error acually prevents you from having network access, when your not running X It took me a long while to figure that one out.

I'm considering shorewall. Could you guys let me in on how difficult shorewall is to set up? would I (limited linux knowlage, but good in IT in general) be able to set it up?

Streeter is right. I am new to this company. They used to outsource their it networking. I'm just here investigate some possibilities. The gateway machine is running red hat 7, so I think iptables could work. At the moment I need to get access to our web server(runs a internal web-based application) from the internet. I understand the concepts of firewalls, but I have no experiece with linux firewalls. I think my problem is that the port forwarding I am using, is not configured right, or the firewall might be blocking the the incoming request on the port I want. I'm Attaching a file with a segment of the script (Don't worry It does not contain my public ip) script_segment.rtf

I know it's old, but the current script file is 500 lines. I do not want to rewrite it in another program.

Now a sasser type worm could REALLY mess up your day. -
Be carfull when buying new ram for you old p2. Some of the newer SDRAM does not work in older MB's. (HINT) I run Mandrake 10 on a P3 667 with 128mb RAM. And It runs better with mandrake than My AthlonXP 1500 (384mb Ram) runs with Win XP.

The only thing I can do is unmount the point. I can't remove it completely. It still tries to reconnect at startup.
-
I "mounted" a shared folder on a win2000 pc using samba each time I restart my linux box, it pauses when it wants to remount that point. I have to press enter to continue booting. Any advice?

Thanks a lot. You completely solved my problems. (I'm sure more will come up in the future) Thanks
