  1. thanks for the info it seems that I'll wait a few more months or till the next version of Mandriva (if security updates aren't terminated), I like it stable Besides I have a ntfs partition, so that's one more bug (related to shutdown) p.s. top - 14:40:19 up 28 days, 14:11, 1 user,
  2. so.. is that cpu overloading a bug or is it sold as a feature? I mean - are they working on fixing it? I'm not going to switch to the new Mandriva if it stays such, 10.2 is as stable as it can get and everything works wonderfully
  3. It's good when you need to resolve some moronic dependencies when you have to install A and B, but urpmi requests B before A and A before B. In this OO case I did it because urpmi didn't see other core files. And to be frank I wasn't aware of the "rpm Uvih" command
  4. No, no problems till now, but I've been using it only for some 5 hours or so.
  5. Hi! I'm thinking of redesigning my room and I have this idea of a Linux flag on one wall. Looked in Google a bit, but didn't find, maybe someone here knows where to buy one? p.s. No specific distro, just the word LINUX. Perfect would be black background, white letters, but I'll consider all options. Thanks!
  6. Did I do anything wrong when installed all the rpm's I needed with # urpmi --allow-force?
  7. aww.. :( there goes my emotional insurance
  8. Hi! Since OO 2.0 final has been finally released, how do you like it, is it stable? Particulary the devastating "destroy the document while auto saving" bug. :o It made me almost panic and I had to rewrite a 25 page report. Serves me right for trusting beta software.. anyways.. would you suggest switching to 2.0? http://www.openoffice.org
  9. 1. You don't need those cd's for installation, those are just extra. 2. You can get all the software you need (including the one on those extra cds) through easy-urpmi (see at the top of this website) 3. To install digikam launch a terminal (konsole) type "su root" then "urpmi digikam", it will be installed. 4. Install gtkam too, it should detect your digital cameras. 5. good luck ;)
  10. I encountered the same error on my 10.1, I think I remember that it dissapeared after a while, I never got to actually addressing it. :D 2005LE has no such problem.
  11. thanx! it must be it so the disk is safe and needs no reburning?
  12. From the walkthrough: "Done! It took just over than one hour, not bad for a full system install." Hey, maybe let's create a race, who can do it in the shortest time? :D Usually it takes about 20mins for my setup. (And that is why I love that installer. Debian.... shrugs)
  13. I think it's so easy a walkthrough is unnecessary. :D Great job though, aRTee, newbies will love it!! Maybe make a link to it in the "Mandrake installation" forum if you haven't already
  14. well, I'm not sure about the mode, because my k3b is set to AUTO mode by default  oh, and thanks for the link, quite interesting
  15. My advice is to wait out the install of the newest (2006) version for a few weeks (a month would be safe), because there are some troublesome glitches which will be addressed asap due to their nature. 2005 (10.2) is very stable though.
  16. Almost the first thing that I did was uninstalling KAT. (before returning to 10.2) It's a bit sad, because the idea is nice, but the cpu load that KAT or related processes cause is just too much.
  17. I have only 4 cd's left in the house.. oh well.. I'll probably reburn it. I tried to read it on W2K using VMware and it showed that the cd is at 700mb, but when it copied the data to a hd, the data was at 770mb And a bonus to that, k3b didn't even show it had enabled overburning!! I think some gremlins might be plotting something X( p.s. They (the cd's) are very expensive here, our moronic government has succumbed to Latvia's' equivalent of RIAA and imposed a ridiculous cd-tax!!
  18. I had some problems with 2006rc2, and I'll just do as I have done most of the previous times - wait a couple of weeks or a month preferably for some missed bugfixes to arrive. In the meantime I have to say that Mandriva 2005 is one of the most stable and enjoyable OSes I've ever ran.
  19. Ok, long story short, I wanted to burn a backup data cd in k3b. I put all the folders I wanted in the burning place, but didn't notice that in one folder I had included a copy of one top level folder top folders [a] [c] [d] and [c] has another [a] in it I only noticed it when it stopped burning, and the weird thing is that k3b showed it only to be 700mb as if the double folder counted as only one. I tested it with adding a few more files and it showed an incese in mb to burn, but it didn't when I put in copies of files. So now I have a standart 700mb cd that Konqueror shows as 770mb, k3b says it's 700mb and when I copied its' contents to a hd folder it really ended up 770mb! Now, my question -> is the other dublicate folder only links burned by k3b and Konqueror just double copied those files without actually reading two different folders, or does my cd actually has physically overburned to 770mb? And if that's the case, should I reburn the cd, because 770 is too unstable for a 770mb cd. I have Rock Ridge and Joilet extensions in cd's filesystem.
  20. or you can start an Xless environment by just typing "init 3" as root in any terminal during the X session. to start X again, type "startx"

As I get Guarddog is only a GUI for IPtables. Have you tried opening the ports you need, like http/https/ftp and the like?
  22. My 10.2 (2005) installation is an update from 10.2 RC2 with a frozen cooker midstage, I changed the repos when 10.2 official (main and update) urpmi sources came online. And I've been updating ever since with no problems at all. Of course there is no guarantee that the same is valid for this time.
  23. hey, I liked that penguin! I may even put it as a default on MDV2006
