  4. I currently are triying to set up the same wireless card but the instruction on the LinkSys site are great, but where in the world does it talk about floopy? Right now I'm in the line where you type in ./Configure, and so far I have not seen anything about a floppy and I have read a head a bit and I also saw something nothing related to floppy. Keep at it if your having trouble you can also join the #musb which is just by clicking Chat at the top of this page.

  5. I think you got some really good advice here also please I recommend that you check the Friendly FAQ table here This has an endless amount of infomation, the other day I must of read about 85 percent of all this all learned a ton, you seriously can't go wrong with reading this stuff. I'm still a Noob too but it's you that decides if you want to be the newb that posts for every question, or find out on his own and asks questions when you can't over come the obstacle, I think I'm starting to take the second one step-by-step and you should too, theres no better feeling than finding things out on your own, but eventually you will need answers from others, and thats why there is this wonderfull board :thumbs:

    Just read my signature that was some good advice from Iphitus

  6. If your running KDE do this

    K>System>Configuration>Packing>Software Media Manager.

    And as said above make sure that the CD 4 does not have a check, then hit ok and next time you are doing what you where it should not ask you for it.

  7. Sorry about that Kyzzar I didn't see your posts, before I made the one on top, I did some research and I found out that your running this from the UK? Is this true? I'll post back with something to help solve this, I know for a fact that when you are sharing the connection you want th PPoE setting.

    From conversations on #musb, I don't believe it is a router. I think it's the DSL Modem going to a Hub then out to the computers.

    In that case it might have to do something with the physical connection. When I connected my DSL to my router ( in windows ) my cables came in color coded. Theres was the Red one that goes from my DSL to the router WAN slot. And the Blue cables to go out to the other computers. It's also better if you happened to get the router from the people that gave you the DSL, they some times come pre-configured to work with each other.

  9. Kyzzar,

    First of all what is the name,model and maker of the DSL modem, Router and who is your ISP.

    Should first try to connect to the internet directly from the modem to your computer that is running Mandrake. so it should be

    DSL--->Computer

    For the router it should be

    DSL--->Router-->Computer, 1 ,2 ,3 ,4---Wireless.

    I'll help you to the best of my abilitys just as soon as I know what your running.

  10. I guess not having all the cd's is ok. Considering the fact that I only installed 2 of them 3. My third one was corrupted. I'll try to install it again, this time with a good 3rd cd as soon as I get more blank discs. Urpmi is a heck of a program or what ever it is, I have used it for almost everything that I have installed.

  11. For some reason when you use your AC it shortens the life of you battery, I just learned this my self from Iphitus who is another board member. According to him it does shorten the life of the battery, and quite frankly I noticed that I used to be able to get about 3 hours when I first got my computer now I'm proably down to something like 45 minutes. What you can do is remove the battery when you are using the AC Adapter, and put in the battery to charge, and when you are not using the AC Adapter. Or if you want you can try to buy another battery, but I don't see the point of it unless you really really need it.

    -Luis :lol:

  12. My HP laptop did the same thing too. My fan was in like overdrive for about 4 hours, and then I started to feel it getting hotter and hotter so I had to shut it off for about another 4 hours. My computer is acting funny since I just removed the battery since it's bad having the battery in when using the AC and the battery fully charged. Now my computer keeps on shutting down because people here recommend that theres something to do with the power. Truly don't know what to say...... The only advice I have is mount that back of your computer with a pen cap or something on each of the back coners, this way air can also escape thrue the bottom airway ( if you have it ) instead of all the air coming out the sides, you might find it quite helpfull, and should try it and you can see the results.

  13. Buy the way how much did the powerpack 10 cost? I found it for like 379 dollars. Is that true or what? I would surely like to buy Mandrake since I can't download some of the free download for free.

  14. Well actually last night I removed the power saver thing, I didn't want my computer to shut down because usually I would wait for someones responce but then my computer shuts down so I turned of the power management off. Also I removed my battery for my laptop since I learned that keeping it in while you are using the AC cable can damage it and also shorten the life of the battery. But I think that it has to do with that power management, but my computer seems ok right now theres nothing running or anything just cool breeze. So what should I do if I want my computer to shutdown when it's not in use but not shut down, like just you know take a nap but still have some programs running in the background. The thing is I usually get important messages around 2:00 in the morning but when I wake up the computer kinda shuts down untill I move the mouse and then I find GAIM closed. And when gaim closes it takes down all the IM so what should be the settings?

  15. Hello guys,

    My computer keeps on restarting on its own for no reason. It has done it about twice in the last 5 minutes, I was just writing a post and it did it again. This is abou the 5th time overrall, I don't know whats wrong. What should I do? Also I didn't install with the 3rd cd since It didn't work so I'm guessing it was corrupted. Anyways what should I do about the quick restarts with out me doing anything, the screen goes black and then it takes me to the blue screen that you see upon boot up. Since I didn't install the 3rd cd does that some how affect the computer, or is it one of those bugs or what ever goes wrong in Linux.

    -Luis

    sorry If you might not understand this but please keep in mind that I'm triying to type as fast as I can before it restarts again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Well thanks LiquidZoo,

    I got to the part where I have to run the first set of commands,

    rm java javac jar

    is Where I'm stuck. It says that it cannot find file or name. That's all for now until we find out how to change that command or whatever.

    P.S I'm thinking about downloading the 3rd cd and making sure that it is correct. I would like to install Mandrake again and start from square 1. This time I would like to run the full installation with all 3 cd. Also I need just a quick answer or which is better or whats the difference between mozilla and mozilla-firefox, LiquidZoo I really like the way that your computer looks, and I wan't to learn how to run something like that. For now I should be greatfull that I have DSL working and I have an internet period. So I'll wait online and hope to talk to you soon.

    Right now I'm downloading the 3rd cd from another website, I downloaded my first 2 cd's from Linuxiso.org. Is this ok? is there a difference in the disks if they are from different websites? Or all all the cd's the same thing, just want to make sure that all three cd's run ok, I don't want to get some kind of error message on the 3rd cd and says something like it does not match the other 2 first cd's.

  17. Well LiquidZoo,

    The installation of the new firmware didn't go well. I got some kind of error message. The only error message that I was able to grab was the one about the javascript this is what it says,

    " Javascrip-Mozilla

    Can not connect to PPPoE sever"

    What do I do? Does this mean that I have to install this java script or what if so how do I do so? Also anyone else please write anything that you suggest,

    -Luis
