  1. About ARTSD: yeah, there is only said: i should turn network-transparency ON anybody find a way to have a remote sound server working? i've got a hp nx6110 laptop with very poor sound card. i would like to make my own server with sound blaster live in it to make the sound work over the network. an external sound card is the best way, i know, but it would cost some money. i've got few pc-parts bouncing around and a sb live card :) have you succeed with anything?
  2. the neverball worked! ok, the 3d is working just fine now. true combat elite does not work yet, but it's a matter of some config - i guess :) mikel
  3. i have installed the mandriva linux 2006 beta3 - the i915 is selected and the card seems to work, but... opengl doesn't display any picture while in 3d mode (only cursor). ill look at it later - i've just finished setting software up. maybe it's just about some rpm to be installed. the kaffeine problem seems to be away, and the motion picture display have been improved compering to the vesa driver. almoust happy :) mikel
  4. i tried the google way on this few times since i got my nx6110, but everything about this problem i have found on the net is "it doesn't work" or "vesa does work" (i said that in my prev. post - please, read carefully) i've been using the vesa driver on my laptop for 3.5 months - but it gets sometimes very (...) hard to use it this way. // (...) = uncomfortable ;) and this problem of mine is regarding a hp compaq nx6110 laptop, not any other desktop or notebook. i know the 915 driver does work, but it does not work the the nx6110 i've just got the mdv06b2 downloaded - i will try it, i'll post my results here
  5. Thanks for the info, I tried this few times. Have you succed this way using mandriva 2005le on a hp compaq nx6110? MikeL
  6. anybody? anything? something? please... mikel
  7. not even a bit close - this is flustrating. i was told by one of the mandriva users that it is because mdv team patch kernel too much. every thing about this problem i found on the net is "it doesn't work" or "vesa does work", but let's be serious - vesa is no good! my laptop came with winxphe, so i can see what this card can do. for me it's something about radeon 9200. for a business laptop is quite good result. please, please help mikel
  8. maybe someone could tell me where to find the answer? please help :)
  9. I've got a HP Compaq NX6110 laptop. It has an Intel 915 chipset inside. I can't get the graphic card working - I use the vesa driver. But there is no 3D at all and there are lots of problems with playing movies. Problems like: picture is too slow and sometimes player hangs (kaffeine). I tried the i815 module, I heard it is compatible in some ways. It's not working. I have updated the ldetect package. In one of the newer versions that this on the Mandriva 2005LE sources it has been updated to detect my card - still "no go". EDIT: Forgot to copy the error message: (EE) Failed to load module "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.a" (once-only module, 136033803) (WW) I810: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0:2:1) found If there are other messages needed please tell me so. 10. isn't that because the KDE Souns System is aRTs? my guess its this way: SoundCard is used by the ALSA Service, ALSA Service is used by aRTs, and so if you would like to play in this configuration something you would have to use aRTs playback module your setup is working (TEST -> ok), so you have to use the aRTs output source (i.e. XMMS: xmms-arts(...).rpm installed and set as the output plugin) thats one way (setting all apps to use aRTs) the second ways is to turn the aRTs off and leave the ALSA to deal with the sound (all apps set to ALSA) and third way: 1st + 2nd = 3rd :) set at the KDE Sound System to disable the system after n-seconds when the system is idle this way you will have the aRTs and ALSA to use (NOT AT ONCE, only one or other) hope it helped
  11. in mandrake 10.1 there is udev which makes it all work just fine, in 10.0 the /mnt/removable dir did not disapear, now it does, so when connecting devices like pendrives or digitalcameras you will get in kde device icon on the desktop (already mounted) and after disconnecting the system will clean it up (unmount, remove the /mnt dir and the desktop icon will disapear) my guess is you can disconnect you pendrive safely when all read/write operations are finished, i do that and only sometimes when i do it too soon (not all is written on the device) i have clean-format it, that is way the safe-remove (win) and unmount (linux) should be done before you pull the plug
  12. from my experience those worked just fine (some tried with mdk10 some mdk10.1, via network or connected direct): hp845, hp3820 canon s200x hp1000, hp1100, hp1010 brother 1030,1230,1240 i dont have any experience with the newest models, you can try the MandrakeMove at someone who has this model you would like to buy there is a graphical tools to set up a printer in mandrake - kups (just fool it you want to set a printer), my guess is if you find your printer there you could say that it is possible that it will work with your mandrake just fine before buying a all-in-one device check first if all of the devices included will work - i would try the mandrakemove thing first
  13. using the how-to from the forum i've updated my ATI drivers (downloaded from ati.com) after driver update there are strange dots and lines on my screen when in 2d mode (i.e. desktop) the noise is rare but it gets uncomfortable, when there is lots of dark colours on the screen noise gets more frequent this "screen noise" is worse when using the 3d graphics, like glxgears. esspecialy when launching the fgl_glxgears, the noise is getting something like this 3d generated box but few inches to the right anyone know where to find the cure? thanks MikeL MDK10.1Official, X.org, ATI driver: fglrx-4.3.0-3.14.6.i386.rpm ATI Radeon 9000 DDR, iCel1.8G, intel845
  14. OK... no wonder nobody have ansered my question - it was so easy to do, that everyone was thinking i was joking :) begin button = enter mode = themode1 end begin button = space mode = themode2 end begin themode1 begin button = 1 end end themode1 begin themode2 begin button = 2 end end themode2 that's all, presets done i feel so stupid - why was there no one to help me ...
