  1. Some of the stuff I found on Google told me that it is a dangerous thing to do... I don't want to crash my installation.....
  2. Hi, I have updated my x-org to 6.8 which is required for the ATI graphics drivers to work. So far no problem. But when I try to install the ATI driver rpm i get the following message: file /..../libGL.so.1.2 conflicts with file from package libxorg-x11-6.8.2-0.5mdk. Anyone know of a solution to this problem? I have found some info about the problem on Google but have not seen a solution... /MrWhisp
  3. Thanks! It seems like the howto is about an older version of Eterm. In the latest version you have to make some changes in the theme.cfg in the themes/trans folder: 1. Comment out the line 'begin button_bar' ('#begin button_bar') to get rid of the menu 2. Set scrollbar off 3. Set borderless true (or maybe false if you have a transparent window theme like me :) ) Start Eterm with 'Eterm -t trans'
  4. Hi, I have two questions about theming my KDE environment: 1. When I choose a transparent konsole without menu and window border, a thin white line is shown at the top and bottom of the konsole window. Is there any way to remove this line? I want a fully transparent konsole... 2. Is there any way, maybe using dcop, to open a open windows list (shortcut Alt+F5)? I want to add it to my Superkaramba theme... Thanks, Mr Whisp
  5. Hello all, I have a strange problem with the LAN card in my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D laptop. Sometimes when I boot into Linux (often when I used the laptop without the network cable connected) the LAN card wont work. I try to reset settings and restart the card in the Mdk Control Center. This wont work either. Even if I reboot the LAN card wont work. My current solution is to boot into my Win XP partition, disable/enable the card and the boot Linux. Now everything works perfectly! This solution works, but I am not very fond of booting Win XP every time the LAN card behaves strangely.... Anyone experienced something like this? /MrWhisp
  6. My plan is to install Mdk on an external USB drive to be able to use Mdk both on my home laptop and my work laptop. Mdk Globetrotter has the ability to store hardware profiles to make it easier to use Mdk on different computers. Is this possible to store hardware profiles with Mdk 10.1 OE? In that case, my problem is solved. I just have to buy a disc and start installing... /Mr Whisp
  7. Hi, I have some interests in the Mdk Globetrotter portable distro to use at my work Laptop when I am travelling by train. My question is, has anyone heard anything about Globetrotter being upgraded to Mdk 10.1? There is a greater support for mobile devices in 10.1 thats why I want it... /Mr Whisp
  8. Thanks for the tip! If it doesn't work perfectly, I dare not install it... Better wait until it is supported. /MrWhisp
  9. Hello, I've updated from 10.0 to 10.1 without problem. The problem is when I login to KDE. KDE 3.2 is still running (I've used installation CD 4 in the update). Why doesn't KDE 3.3 start? Can I set 3.3 to start? /MrWhisp

    System clock

When I rebooted into my rarely used Win XP partition and changed the clock setting, everything works ok even in Linux... So this is obviously a Linux problem... /MrWhisp

    System clock

When I enable NTP and presses the OK button, the time changes to 08:34 (correct) in a few seconds but then changes back to 23:54 again

    System clock

Hello, A strange thing happended to me when I changed the system clock from summertime to wintertime. When I set the clock, it stays correct in a few hours, but suddenly it changes about 12 hours backwards. I have never had this problem before, and I have tried to unset the automatic Internet clock setting on drakconf. The question is: 1 - Could this be a Linux issue? 2 - If not, maybe its problem with my hardware... /MrWhisp
  13. When I use unmount before removing the memory stick /mnt/removable2 dissappeared. The problem is that the old /mnt/removable is still present in the system, and it doesn't dissapear after remove or after unmount... /MrWhisp
  14. Hello, I have a USB memory stick to transfer files between work and home. When I insert the stick to my Mandrake 10.0 OS everything mounts correctly and I can use the stick, but sometimes the unmount doesn't seem to work. /mnt/removable and /mnt/removable2 is shown at the desktop even if the memory stick is removed. I have tried unmount without success. Anyone know how to get rid of the old icons? /MrWhisp
  15. I have made a lot of changes and moved the system to sourceforge: http://jhoney.sourceforge.net /MrWhisp
  16. Sometimes ;) The first time I upgraded Shorewall on my computer, the network was unreachable. I removed Shorewall, reinstalled it and everything work perfectly! Good luck!
  17. I had the same problem and found this info on Shorewall's website: /MrWhisp

    Spam Filter

Thanks for the help. I found a nice proxy at www.spambayes.org that works really nice. Too bad it doesn't have any antivirus features...
  19. The application and all installation/usage instructions is now available at http://www.frc-consulting.com/security/tools/ Send any feedback, questions or ideas about this project to johan@frc-consulting.com
  20. I will post it somewhere in a few days. I just has to finish some details with the service scripts... The goal of this project is a useful honeypot, and therefore I need some ideas of other "honeypot" techniques...
  21. Hi, I have developed a "Honeypot" security tool. I really would like some more ideas about this tool and therefore I would like to discuss it. And if anyone is interested in testing it let me know and I will post it on a website. The tool works as follows: A hacker always tries the easiest ways of attacking a system. So if, for example, port 139 (Netbios) is open a hacker attacks that port before trying other attacks, such as webserver exploits. My Honeypot opens servers at selected ports so it, for example, looks like the Netbios service is available. If anyone tries to connect to this port, the honeypot logs the intruder IP and hostname and automatically adds his IP to the Shorewall dynamic blacklist. The server ports is specified in a config file and can be any ports not used by a system service. I have for example emulated the Windows RPC service (computers probably infected with viruses like Ms Blaster) and blacklists about 2-4 IP / minute. To avoid infinitely growing blacklists the system executes a shorewall allow of the IP addresses after a user specified time interval, for example 10 minutes. Any ideas of further development for this tool? /MrWhisp

    Partitions

It's a laptop, otherwise I would have bought another drive... I really don't want to experiment with the partitions anymore when I got it to work once. My first idea was to transfer files with CD-RW discs, but I can't get the CD burner to work in MDK. But it might be easier to solve the CD writer problem instead of repartition the drive... /MrWhisp

    Partitions

Hi, I need to repartition my Win XP ntfs partition into one ntfs (with windows OS) and one smaller FAT32. Otherwise I won't be able to transfer files between the OS:es... Anyone know of a good Linux prog to do this? /MrWhisp
  24. You must add "/<path to java home>/bin" to your path. For example in the ~/.bashrc file PATH=$PATH:/<path to java home>/bin When this has been done, you should be able to use the java/javac commands to see if the rest of the installation is okay. /MrWhisp
