  1. Hmm.... I guess with Suse I'll have to wait a while before I'm ready to attempt that. Well I read the manual and it looks like I'll try the precompiled ones for the Athlon XP'S, the stage 3 one, because I am bad with Linux and maybe when I get better with Linux I'll try a stage 1. Thanks, because trying to download Gentoo was not making any sense at all. I also like the fact that Gentoo is only one cd! :D Very convient.
  2. I am currently interested in also trying Suse and Gentoo. I don't have to worry about checking signatures because k3b does that automatically when burning. The problem is when I download the boot.iso for suze its the only cd. You have to do an ftp install which I don't want to do. I want it to be like mandrake when I have all the cds ready to just put in and out. The confusion I have with gentoo is I can't find the right directory to download them. They have x86's and other processors mixed in all their directories and it makes no sense to me. I am currently running a Athlon XP. So I guess I should select that, but I never did select that with Mandrake. Mandrake worked on AMDS, and Pentiums alike. Which directory has the right gentoo isos for Pentiums and AMDS? Could you point me to a few sites already in the right directory? Thanks, SwiftDeath [moved from Networking by spinynorman]
  3. I plugged it into windows and it worked fine. I also did a lot more searching and I found a new zealand site offereing the drivers. Canon i250 drivers here When you scroll down you'll eventually see one listed Their are like 7 of them. Which one/ones do I install in order to just add the correct driver to CUPS and have the printer function normally using cups; and not the command line or anything weird like that.
  4. Yes... someone suggested popfile and I said that was useless because its an e-mail program. I need to start-up certain applications when my computer boots. Specifically I'm trying to start /home/andrew/Desktop/noip-2.1.1/noip2 so I add that in the gnome session but the problem is I have to be logged into root to start it so it doesn't work. Is their another alternative for a gnome-user or a way to su into root in the same command, so that it fits in the gnome session?
  5. I tried that driver... and it can't test print a standard page. I don't think thats the right driver. Do you have any other ideas?
  6. SwiftDeath

    Canon I250

I plug it an and it detects it fine and everything, I just have no clue which driver to use. I dry raw driver and it didn't work. Which driver should I pick, and if their isn't one where should I Dl one and what folder should I put it in? Thanks in advance, SwiftDeath
  7. That didn't make too much sense but I added the command /home/andrew/Desktop/noip-2.1.1/noip2 to start the program, but it can't start because its needs root access to start. How do I make it logon root in the command line or an alternative way to get it to work? I looked at popfile through RPMDRAKE and that looked like an e-mailing program.
  8. Did you try disabling supermount?
  9. lol. When I get my powerpack... which shoulda arrived last week. I'll try and clear this up. lol
  10. ^---- Can you do that method in Gnome, too?
  11. I'm confused. So what does Discovery and the Powerpacks do if you can just dl the RPMS from the servers?
  12. Maybe add the CDS to your media manager (sources)? Then do URPMI --auto-select --auto? I think that would work.
  13. Whenever I use LimeWire it runs fine dlin every thing I want it to and stuff. But when I click the X, instead of quitting, it just minimizes the program. When I right-click close on it in the panel showing all the applications that are running, it just ignore it. I can't figure out how to close this damn program. Also, its not the like the program freezes or anything, I can still change tabs and download stuff. IT just WON"t CLOSE! Thanks for help in advance, SwiftDeath NOTE: For people having this problem.... The solution is actually simple... You just have to wait for all the downloads to complete. If you want to close it immediatly, then you must cancel all the downloads. I had many downloads stuck at zero forever, and thats why the program would never close. --PROBLEM SOLVED--
  14. I can't remember off the top of my head.. but keep looking in the sub-sections and you'll eventually find it, because I remember changing the workgroups. I know it works, I did this sucessfully before, like 2 weeks ago.
  15. In the programs your using, did you give the correct writing speed in the settings?
  16. Hmm strange... normally messing with the settings in TVtime would fix it for me. Did you try running Myth Tv? I wish I could help more, but I lack the knowledge. I use a BT878 and it works fine with TvTime. Best of Luck, SwiftDeath
  17. I use to get this same problem. Unforunatly I was never able to fix it. I beleive this problem is caused from improper shut downs when Apache is running? Was that true for you.... Because if it was my only advice would be to uninstall Apache and then Reinstall it. You also try updating to the Official ediition. It has a lot less bugs and runs more stable. Best of luck, SwiftDeath
  18. I beleive you connect to webmin with this actual adress. http://localhost:10000
  19. I guess I'll try Reiserfs next. I figured out how to get NVU to work.
  20. I get a similiar error with NVU, too. So whats better file system, ext3 or reiserfs? It is getting more reliable and more reliable as I'm starting to understand how everything works. Finally getting stuff to work, like XXMS, Limewire, and K3b, and its sweet.
  21. Why not just use XXMS? Its just as capable with less adds and stuff. You can dl via URMPI and RPMDRAKE.
  22. yes.... samba can do all that. A good program to control Samba with is webmin, type URPMI Webmin and download it. Once you start it point your browser to http://localhost:10000 and you can control Samba from there. Its relatively easy to figure out, I've been messing around with it for a while
  23. Seems like a pretty descent article, I haven't encountered any of those stupid errors I get all the time in linux.
  24. Hmm... this isn't sounding reassuring in linux supiority... But good points. At least Macs on based on Unix.
