  9. In the next days I will send you all the output in the console. The only that I can say now is that: Playing /dev/hdc libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access Reading disc structure, please wait... libdvdread: Can't seek to block 256 libdvdread: Can't seek to block 256 libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO. Can't open VMG info! I installed just yesterday a package named lsdvd. When I type lsdvd in a terminal the output is exactly the same: Playing /dev/hdc libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access Reading disc structure, please wait... libdvdread: Can't seek to block 256 libdvdread: Can't seek to block 256 libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO. Can't open VMG info! I tried with two DVDs only, with the same results... But there is actually a news: when I mount the DVD (as iso9660 filesystem) I find two folders: audio_ts and video_ts (more or less). In the video_ts there are numerous files.vob of 1024MB. I can play them with mplayer, xine, vlc, totem or whatever you want and see them! This is my film! Of course, there is no interactive menu... What makes me so surprised is that I see the folders under Windows, but they are almost empty. So, the problem is that I cannot read the VIDEO_TS.IFO? Do you think I should use mplayer 1.0pre3-3.3.2? Another thing: my DVD region is set 2 (I live in region 2...).
  10. I am running Mandrake Linux 9.2 Downloaded Edition now. Actually there are some problems that must be fixed. This is a simple issue if you have access to sufficiently fast network since you will have to install a certain number of bug fixes... (the updates). Remember the problems with LG drives... Good luck! ;)
  11. Hi! You should install the kernel sources. They can be found in ftp mirrors of Mandrake (http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/ftp.php3) if they are not on the installation CDs. For example in the 3 CDs of Mandrake 9.2 (for i586) there were not the sources, but only the compiled kernel... Instructions on how to compile the kernel can be found in mandrake guide (you can find it at http://doc.mandrakelinux.com/MandrakeLinux...ommand-Line.pdf (see Chapter 13). Otherwise at http://www.kernel.org you can find the sources of the newest versions. It is better to start from the sources of the kernel of you own distro... :D
  12. Really? Now, I am quite desperate... I downloaded libdvdcss and libdvdcss-devel form pfl (two files only, is the right?) and installed it using rpm -i file.rpm (am I wrong?). I found a problem with the key in the rpm, but I think this is not the problem. Mplayer still does not work. Can you tell me exactly what packages you installed? For example I installed mplayer-0.91-7.1.92mdk.i586.rpm mplayer-gui-0.91-7.1.92mdk.i586.rpm but not the preliminary version to 1.0. Is that the problem? I do not know! Should I install other rpms for pfl? Of course, neither Xine nor vlc media player do no work...
  13. Yes, I (would like to) use mplayer. There is not a particular reason... I simply was aware of it before then xine or totem. If your advice will work for xine, but not for mplayer I will move to xine... I'll try your way in the next days... Thanks!!!
  14. Hi! I run Mandrake Linux 9.2 Downloaded Edition on my laptop (a Acer TravelMate 261 XV). I would like to play DVDs with Mandrake. I installed the package mplayer. When I tried to play a DVD (a film for example), it told me that the DVD was encrypted and it could nor open VMG info (I still do not know what it is). I discovered the existence of libdvdcss2, downloaded it from http://www.videolan.org and installed. Actually, this is not still the solution since when I try to play a DVD it tolds me: Playing /dev/hdc libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access Reading disc structure, please wait... libdvdread: Can't seek to block 256 libdvdread: Can't seek to block 256 libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO. Can't open VMG info! Up to now these are the packages on my computer: libdvdcss2, libdvdread, libdvdnav, libdvdplay and related devel packages. Also mplayer and gmplayer. What should I do to play DVDs?
  15. The are to useful programs: kacpi and akpi. They monitor in a very careful way the state of the battery... See you! :D
  16. Hi! I suppose you are running some Mandrake distribution. Among the packages there is one named klaptop. You need to install it and the have a look in the KDE Control Center in the pages where you setup energy saving controls (that is to say what arthur posted)... Gook luck!
  17. Hi! :D I'm not so sure I've understood the problem. I'm not so aquainted with Mac. But I now there are several problems with internal modems (not only in laptops, but also in desktops). That is to say, they do not work at all (no drivers!). There's a site (http://www.linmodems.org), where you can find some stuff about the development of drivers for internal modems If you installed KDE, loop for kppp (open a terminal and type kppp). This program helps you in establishing an internet connection in a simple way. I had some problems in using drakconnect to setup my modem (external, the internal doesn't work). Bye!

    Webmin

Hi! In the worst case you could find the package webmin-1.100-2mdk in one of the installation CDs, copy it on your hard drive and type as root: rpm -i webmin-1.100-2mdk.rpm Good luck!
  19. Thanks a lot chris z!!! :D Now if I go to http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome/ I can see the Flash animation... But not the Shockwave one... (actually, if I am not wrong, there is no Shockwave Player for Mozilla under Linux). Am I wrong? To sum up, I write down (my) steps to install Flash Player in Mozilla (at least for Mandrake Linux 9.2). Install the following packages: mozilla-1.4-13mdk mozplugger-1.3.0-5mdk libstdc++2.10 Probably, the second is not necessary for the aim... but I'am telling exactly what I did... Do not install the following packages: libswfdec0-0.2.2-3mdk swfdec-0.2.2-3mdk swfdec-mozilla-0.2.2-3mdk Just now I see swfdec-0.2.2-3mdk for the first time among all packages. Previously I did not install it, because I searched among packages with the key word "mozilla" and it did not appear. I installed only swfdec-mozilla-0.2.2-3mdk, but even with chris z suggestion flash player did not work. I don't know if flash will work with all these tree packages are installed + chris z suggestion (if you like this way, try and report!). chris z & VILLA21 suggestion: as root run ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.5 /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 Download the player from Macromedia web site. Install it: login as root in a terminal, type tar -xzvf install_flash_player_6_linux.tar.gz cd install_flash_player_6_linux ./flashplayer_installer When it asks you the directory where to put the player I said "/usr/lib/mozilla-1.4" instead of the default "/usr/lib/mozilla". Both directories exist, but the second seemed to more rich... Now it will be all OK with mozilla and flash!!!
  20. Hello everybody! :D I run Mandrake Linux 9.2 Download Edition on my laptop. Flash plugin doesn't work. I installed the package of my distribution (so I run Mozilla 1.4). I also installed the mozplugger. Neither the swfdec package contained in the installation CDs, nor the .tar.gz you download in the site of Macromedia site (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/alternates/) both as user and as root, without any result. I also installed the libstdc++2.10 (again for the installation CDs), but it does not work! I wonder if I had to copy some files in some mozilla directory... This is strange since every other time I had to install the flash plugin I downloaded it from the Macromedia web site and all was ok...
