Solved it - those 100 dpi and 75 dpi Xorg font packages are 0 bytes on that update mirror. I recently de-installed the xorg-x11 100 dpi fonts , in order to solve the crappy fonts i'm getting after upgrading from 10.0 to 10.1 - now i want to reinstall it. Because of a recent xorg update, i now get errors if i try to install this package. Any ideas how to solve this? Problem solved. 1. remove the xorg-x11-100dpi and xorg-x11-75dpi packages (they have crappy helvetica and serif fonts) 2. download and install the ms-font rpms from http://webperf.org/msfonts/ urpmi msfonts-1.2.1-1.noarch.rpm urpmi msfonts-style-1.2.1-1.noarch.rpm 3. edit /etc/fonts/local.cf - add all of your font directories here's mine: <dir>/usr/share/fonts/msfonts</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts/msfonts-style</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts/default/ghostscript</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts/ttf</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts/ttf/western</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts/freefont</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts/Dustismo</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts/ttf/decoratives</dir> <dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/msttcorefonts</dir> <dir>/usr/local/share/fonts</dir> <dir>/usr/share/fonts</dir> <dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts</dir> 4. fc-cache -f -v 5. restart your window manager (ctrl+alt+backspace ) Voila! on 10.0 it didnt work either - it did work under 9.2. maybe you're right - maybe the drive really is at fault.

upgraded from 10.0 to 10.1 , and k3b still has problems. I cannot burn ISO images , as I'm getting "buffer underrun" errors. my kernel is 2.6.8.1-12mdkenterprise At least that progress - in 10.0 K3B would refuse point blank to communicate with my cd burner (2.6.8 kernel changes...). Had no problems burning in releases prior to 10.0 I thought Mandrake had patched the 2.6.8 kernel to solve these CD burning issues? Anyone else install 10.1 and have K3B problems, or lack of them?

havent there been major kernel changes in 2.6 that handle USB devices differently to the 2.4 kernel? i noticed big system freezes when using a flash card reader on Mdk 10, 2.6 kernel- nothing to do with USB , but it's technically another pluggable "device" - plus there's the cd burning issues with 2.6, so it all points back to the way devices are handled in 2.6....

Just did a fresh install of Mandrake 10 official, and my cd writer drive refuses to mount and as a result K3B doesnt burn. Just upgraded to 10.0 - nvidia card - when i run enemy territory my KDE resets itself. And yes, i've got the latest nvidia drivers from their website. in fact, i've never been able to get ET to run on 10.0 or lower. maybe 10.1 is the solution?
