sounds like you are denying access to the CUPS server.......... I'll pass on the first born, what kind of cars?

I have a basic (forget the model) ATI tuner and it works fine. Video card is nvidia geforce 4 mx 420 , also working fine.

I snooped around a bit and didn't get very far either. I'm still trying as time permits tho' There's a lot of that in the computer world. <cough> my win XP </cough> (only for that rare instance I need it) I try to keep an open mind about stuff and sometimes try stuff just to see if I can get it to work.

OK so I went and got the serial cable. Had a really bad brain fart, but got it working. One of these days I'll remember it's ttyS1 not ttys1  yes I was frustrated when it kept saying the port didn't exist, but all is well that ends well!

I got a handspring treo recently and had the horror of using windows to sync with it. It seems the usb support for it is available as a patch to an older kernal, so that's not an option I'm considering. I read one place that the optional serial cable willwork in linux. Before running out and buying a $30 cable I was wondering if anyone can confirm that it will work. I want nothing more than to be able to use linux, but am using XPee at the moment as my only option. I have the handspring treo 90, but I beleive all treos sync the same. I really don't want to boot into windows if I don't have to! (no I'm not in windows now :P )

/mnt/windows is set for all permissions to root (the owner) and only read for all others. I am not able to even browse it as a regular user and if try to change the permissions as root, an error states I do not have enough access to the file to chance permissions. Root has no problem browsing through. I no longer have a functioning windows installation, but I do have stuff saved there and I occasionally run stuff from there with wine. It was fine until 9.1 and I can't figure out what the problem is. my fstab entry is: /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat user,exec,dev,suid,rw,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850 0 0 does the problem lie there? I still don't know what most of that really means so maybe it needs editing. any ideas?

Well I already did the rebuilding, and editing. But it sounds as if even a windows user could install these drivers now  I guess this is the way to go to lure them over! 8)

Yes, you're right. I tracked it down and had to install libgtk+mdk0.1_6-devel along with 3 other "needed" packages. Talk about a fast answer and fix! wish all probs were this easy.......

OK, so here I am in 9.1 trying to install all the software I had before the fresh install. I have gk installed, but I run into this checking for gtk-config... no checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.0... no *** The gtk-config script installed by GTK could not be found *** If GTK was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in *** your path, or set the GTK_CONFIG environment variable to the *** full path to gtk-config. configure: error: Cannot find GTK: Is gtk-config in path? and yet here's what I have installed [root@dhcp-570-246 xlog-0.8]# rpm -qa|grep gtk libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-2.2.1-2mdk libgtk+2.0_0-2.2.1-2mdk gtkdialogs-2.0-3mdk gtk+mdk-0.1.6-14mdk gtk-engines2-2.2.0-2mdk nautilus-gtkhtml-0.3.2-5mdk libgtkhtml1.1_3-1.1.8-2mdk libgtk+1.2-1.2.10-32mdk gtk+2.0-2.2.1-2mdk libgtkhtml2_0-2.2.0-2mdk pygtk-0.6.9-6mdk gtkhtml-1.1.8-2mdk gtkam-0.1.10-2mdk gtk-engines-0.12-7mdk gtk-themes-1.0-9mdk libgtkxmhtml1-1.4.2-3mdk libgtkmm1.2-1.2.10-1mdk libexif-gtk4-0.3.3-2mdk And I can't find any gtk-config files at all. Am I missing a package? This installed fine in 9.0, but not quite so easy now.... I have GTK, but ./configure doesn't see it.

Out of curiosity, what the heck does the "none" do? :?: :?:

PRoblem solved..... don't know what happened, but it works fine now. Thanx for the help. Hope this helps anyone else that may have a similiar problem. 8)

thanks, will try. looks nothing like what I ended up with. Why can't this stuff happen when I have time to sit around and "tweak"?

For some reason after install my fstab entry for my burner was a bunch of gibberish that just gave errors. I've gotten it so I can mount it, but no supermount yet. Anyone have success with it and want to post their fstab entry for comparison? Hopefully it's just a problem here and not a common prob. Install otherwise went fine.
-
Install went fine for me, but I have at least a couple bugs to work out.... no supermount..... no permission for users on /mnt/windows (can't change either) trying to hunt down the probs
-
Now to burn the cd's!
-
YESSSSSS! all 3 done..... oops...... better check md5sum

hmmmm..... you'd think everyone was trying to download it at once! ho hum, at least Spain is working for me around 100KB/s

I'm just wondering if anyone can explain this. Some programs (ex. xmms) will only work with artsd running. as for many things I run I need to stop artsd. Turning it on and off is a pain, but that's what I have to do for my programs. What gives? any solutions, or do I just deal with it?
-
I've stopped by there, but your impression was right. Most wouldn't even compile for me.

There must be other hams here, and other experiences with ham software. I got a few apps to work in 9.0 but was wondering what other programs have been used with any luck. PSK--> KPSK SSTV--> QSSTV logging -->XLOG that's what I use, but want to try fax, rtty and others. anyone had any luck with those or any programs?
-
How would you go about making the volume +/- keys work?
-
Are you using rpm -Uvh to upgrade, or trying to install(rpm -ivh)? I've had that problem trying to install, but upgrade worked. Installing over a previous version can wreak a lot of havoc with some things. The -U will tell it to upgrade to the new version.
-
So how is 9.1 looking so far? I haven't had the time to check it out, but was wondering if it's much of a leap from 9.0 or not. Hopefully it is a good step forward. I will try it when I get time, but that is scarce lately.
