  1. In a communist society there would be a single OS and it would be the property of the government and under the government's control.
  2. So let me get this straight, LSB RPMs will run on any LSB compatible Linux distro? If that's true then I wish LSB rpms were made more readily available... It sucks having to hunt down RPMs for each distro...
  3. Who needs a book on Linux? The internet, and these forums in particular, are 100 times better than any book out there. B)
  4. Lindows is hardly the MS of the Linux world. They are released a HTML editor for free (as in speech and beer) whereas MS would have made it closed source and welded it into the OS. The only thing Lindows and MS have in common is they both want to make money. What's so wrong with that?
  5. Well, I can see Lindows being a good stepping stone OS for people wanting to leave windows and enter the Linux world, but I don't see it as an OS you want to use long term, and nor is it free.
  6. What if SCO succeeds in discrediting the GPL, and the courts rule it is worthless? Does this mean that everything we hold dear will be lost?
  7. Yeah, you're absolutely right. Shit, I'm not even gonna use a GUI for anything anymore. Not even to browse the web! Hell, I'm not even gonna use a pre-made OS, I'll make my own! But shit, why stop there? I'm gonna actually reinvent the computer from scratch because maybe there is a backdoor in my hardware! And who should be allowed to use a computer who didn't invent it anyhow? No one. So everyone, destroy your computers, and build your own from scratch! And don't even use pre-built capacitors or resistors or transistors to do it either because you don't understand how they were made! You gotta make them from scratch. Do it, or else you are a user and a poser using lame-o tools built by others! And don't think of using a prebuilt screwdriver or other tools either. You have to build your own.
  8. Well, let me just say that it's a good thing we have Progeny now that Red Hat seems to have turned evil. B)
  9. There is just one thing I have to know before I start demoing this to people. Does this contain that kernel version that will destroy LG CD-ROMs?
  10. http://www.mepis.org/ I'm downloading the iso for the first disk now. B) Has anyone else tried it and can offer their opinion on it? I've heard good things.

    VCD problem.

Try installing all the xanim-codecs and the win32-codecs from plf http://mandrakeusers.com/PLF/mandrake/9.2/i586/ also try installing all the xine packages. I KNOW that quicktime files can be played on Linux, as I have done it many times.
  12. note: even though the following says different versions of Moz or Netscape, it could be a profile conflict with Epiphany. (just a guess  ) and here's a link to the proper Flash plugin & some instructions for install & compatability issues: (since you said you installed a Flash rpm, you may wanna try this tar.gz install instead) Moz Flash Plugin and (yet again) one more final thought......... you keep saying that you're installing Moz from rpm's. if you haven't tried this already, try installing Moz from the tar.gz package instead. Moz1.5 downloads might be worth a shot. B) Chris Hmm, I dunno... it stopped working before I installed epiphany so I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem. Where might I find this xul file? I have already deleted all the mozilla directories so if it was in there I have already deleted it, and it didn't work.
  13. Where might one find an rpm of the new version? B)
  14. Yeah, I think we can be pretty sure the cause of the problem is that flashplayer rpm. I installed Mozilla 1.5 using a rpm package I found, it didn't work. Anyway, thanks everyone for the suggestions. If I don't get mozilla back I'll be fine, epiphany is not a bad browser at all. B)
  15. I was using the official 1.4.1 mozilla that came with mandrake 9.2 and it was an RPM. That didn't work, and yesterday I found an 1.5 rpm and that doesn't work either. :o I don't know if this means anything or not, but I am using the epiphany web browser and that depends on mozilla to be installed and it works fine.
  16. Yep, I deleted that directory too. I didn't install Java, but I did install a flashplayer rpm which I'm thinking may be the cause of my problem. I have already uninstalled that though, but the problem persists. And it's not really that mozilla is crashing, but that it isn't starting at all.
  17. I don't get an error message or anything. By the way, I upgraded to mozilla 1.5 and still have the same problem.
  18. Seems no one can help me.
  19. I don't know if it's the cause or not, but right after installing flash my mozilla browser stopped working and I have been unable to get it to work since. By the way, you may be able to find an rpm of flash. There is one here but I think this is for 9.1 and it happened to be the one I installed which might have messed up my mozilla so try it at your own risk. You might also find an rpm for 9.2 somewhere. Good luck. :)

    Gaim 0.68

I don't know if there is a way of doing it wihout uninstalling the other apps, but what I would do is write down the name of the apps to be uninstalled then uninstall them and then reinstall them after you've installed Gaim.
  21. I am using 9.2 and I installed mozilla 1.4.1 and all went well until today when for some reason it wouldn't load up at all. I tried loading it from the shortcut, from the run thing, and from a terminal, and in every single case nothing happened. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still nothing. I then uninstalled it and deleted every mozilla directory I could find then reinstalled it and still nothing. So now I am using Firebird, which is quite good and I can live without Mozilla but it would be nice to get it back.
  22. It wasn't slow, it was inactive and for quite a long time too. No, I didn't check the md5sum.
  23. I tried it and it wouldn't work for me. Just wouldn't load up.
