At this point in time, mainstream 3D gaming in linux without an nvidia card is asking for trouble. Nevertheless, you should get quake - based game working. FFF

I just changed my Radeon 8500 for an Nvidia 5900XT and I am so HAPPY that I wonder why I didn't move to nVidia before : - TVOUT works - Winex works - Games like Savage or NWN works - several settings can be changed through environment variables (no need to edit the configuration file + restart X) - performance is much better (this is not the same generation of hardware though) In the past 2 years, I have been spending a lot of time trying various DRI releases + all the beta & non-beta firegl & ati drivers. With nVidia, I will hopefully spend more time doing productive tasks (i.e. fragging ....) FFF

Get the linux driver rpm from the ATI site (version 3.2.5) and you should be all set ... FFF

Apart from the sound issues, this is a really great program, it feels smoother than through Winex. Would Ryan be kind enough to indicate if there is a plan to support the 2nd extension of the game Mohaa - l'Offensive to be released 25 sept (in France). I would buy it together with Spearhead if this is the case. Regards, FFF
