  1. Yes, an article about CFLAGS would be really interesting.
  2. Ircd-Hybrid is the irc server used by Efnet. Ircd won't start as root, so if i simpy put the path to the executable in rc.local it won't start because it refuses to start as root.I want to make it start ON BOOT, but with a normal user.THE PROBLEM is that it doesn't have any options were u can tell it what user should run under, NO, it runs as the user u ARE CURENTLY logged on. So how can i make it start up on boot?
  3. I just installed Ircd-hybrid 7 on my lan server.Since it won't start as root, i have to start it with a normal account. If i put the path to ircd in /etc/rc.d/rc.local, how can i make it start with a normal user account, since it won't start as a root, because i did a man ircd, but i didn't see any useful option.....
  4. Could someone post the conclusions of this lengthy topic ???? Because it is interesting, but in the end it gets somewhat confusing.
  5. For your knowledge rcxau, i know there is su and i allways want to know how to do things in text mode.I am able to configure a system, compile the kernel, make the net and network work without using kde or gnome.I try not to depend on kde/gnome for anything i do(although surfing the net with mozilla is so much nicer than with links/lynx).
  6. Did you find anything useful ezroller ????
  7. Sheeesh, the list is huge, could someone point me to a place where i can get an archive that has all the files ????, cause downloading them all by hand is a consuming process.

    Alc 650 problem.

Nope, i have a Gigabyte 7VAXP.In windows the drivers have the options i was telling you about, but in linux, it's another story.
  9. Ofcourse, i just wanted to say that i did think of that, but at that time i thought it wasn't neccesary.
  10. Because my university teacher want's to install linux on some very, very old computers (mainly 386 and a 486) which are in a network with a novell 2.2.1 server.
  11. Advice taken, but u still haven't told me how to fix my problem, u just gave me a workaround, i would like an answer concerning my question
  12. I downloaded the drivers from realtek, which are actually alsa 0.9.rc5, compiled them, followed the instrunctions from realtek and i got my onboard sound card working. The problem is that i have at home a 5.1 speaker system. In windows, you can select in alc's drivers to remap the microfone and line in to subwoofer and rear speakers, thus enabling me to hear on all 5.1 speakers But in linux i have no idea how to do this, and so i hear sound only from my front speakers. Any ideas ?????? Btw: i also tried with 0.9.1 final, but to no avail.
  13. Does anybody know a linux distro that can be installed on a 40mb harddrive ????
  14. The thought did cross my mind, but when i checked /etc/hosts it only had this line : 127.0.0.1 localhost So i thought that if i didn't find a line with my ip address and the hostname, i shouldn't have to add one. :D
  15. I modified /etc/sysconfig/network to change my hostname. It works, but when i start kde, just before entering graphic mode it tells me : host name lookup failure. So, what other files shoud i modify,in order to get rid of that warning.
  16. Well, i don't do that, so how can i fix this problem. I was wondering what should i modify in order for mandrake to give me a normal desktop, not the root one, while being logged in as a root. Ideas ?
  17. When i enter Kde 3.1 as root, i can't select anything on the desktop with the mouse, i can't do a right click or anything. I can move the mouse though and i can click on the menus and the taskbar, but when i try to do smth on the desktop, the mouse cursor changes into a small x and i can't do anything with the mouse. PS: I have Mandrake 9.1

    Firewall config.

From here : http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/IP-Masquerade-HO...-2.4.X-STRONGER I knew about pcflank, it's not that good. This is the question i should have asked, it makes much more sense. The "server" is a P200 mmx, 32mb , 1mb S3 running Mdk 9.And i am not running shorewall, or firestarter, or smth similar.
