  1. Well, I'm now, as I type, working on AIGLX. And I didn't see any "welcome screen" when booting into my Mandriva Free 2007 :P . Although I still don't know how to make 3D cube to spin properly, wobbling windows, animated menues and other stuff seems to work perfectly. The funniest thing is, that on Mandriva 2007 PP I had many problems with drivers for my Radeon x800, but none on the Free-version. The 3D simply started without problems.
  2. Hmmm, for now I configured a free IzyMail acount and now I'm getting my hotmail-mail via this service. But it's not an ideal solution for me, so I will be looking for a better one. Thx for advice.
  3. I didn't know where to post description of my problem, but it first emerged after installing and booting my Mandriva Free 2007, so I decided to post it here. Well, it looks something went wrong in the installation process, althought the process itself ended without bigger problems. Then, when I did boot for the first time I saw it ending on Setting hostname localhost : [ OK ] Nothing was happening. I only saw glittering cursor. My first thought was something did go wrong in the installation process, but then it came in that Mandriva have started after another "hard" restart. And now I have about fifty-fifty chances of successful boot, maybe even less. Every time I'm pressing power on or restart button, I wonder whether it will start without a problem, or would it end on the "setting hostname localhost" stage. Anyone have an idea what's going on?
  4. I was also very curious why I couldn't login as a root to my Mandriva 2007. Thx for that advice ffi
  5. Hmm, according to the infomation on the website I need "URI-CSPAN-module", but the link they gave is dead  Anyone know from where can I gey it?
  6. Two issues yet waiting to be solved. First one: [root@localhost zibi1981]# glxinfo | grep direct libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b direct rendering: Yes And the second one is related with it... [root@localhost zibi1981]# glxgears libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b *********************************WARN_ONCE********************************* File radeon_mm.c function radeon_mm_alloc line 207 Ran out of GART memory! Please consider adjusting GARTSize option. *************************************************************************** Error: Could not get dma buffer... exiting What's "GARTSize option"? How to adjust it?
  7. So if I understood you correctly, there isn't a way to make KWallet remember my own password, when I'm using my personal Linux account? I have to type the password every time I'm prompted for it, wright?
  8. Well, I'm using it because of security issues. I mean my system is better protected, isn't it?. Anyone know how to configure KWallet to remember the password when it is beeing started?
  9. Hmm, I don't know what's happening to my MD 2007PP, but it seems that 3d have suddenly started to work :o I didn't do anything, I just wanted to check what "glxinfo | grep direct" command does, and it showed as below [zibi1981@localhost Incoming]$ glxinfo | grep direct libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b direct rendering: Yes I'm shocked and amazed, and don't know what has happened to my system. BTW, what's "visual 0x4b"??? EDIT I don't believe it!!! I've finally managed to run AIGLX!!! :woot_jump: I don't know how, but it works!!! P.S. How to change between desktops???
  10. Indeed very simple. How is it possible that I didn't notice this option before? Thx edwardp Any suggestions on how to make KWallet to remember my password?
  11. We are at cross purposes. I don't want KMail to start with my system, but to collect my mail when it's started. I mean when I press KMail icon on my panel, and it's starting to run, I want it to automatically check my e-mail accounts. Is my point clear now?
  12. Well, I don't know whether this would end in a "non-bootable status", but I got this error message at the end of my compliation: drivers/usb/net/cdc_subset.c:212:2: error: #error You need to configure some hardware for this driver make[3]: *** [drivers/usb/net/cdc_subset.o] Error 1 make[2]: *** [drivers/usb/net] Error 2 make[1]: *** [drivers/usb] Error 2 make: *** [drivers] Error 2 What should I do next? How to erase the files generated by this compilation, and compile a new kernel? EDIT: I finally managed to run my new kernel, but it still requires some work. Anyways, now I'm running my old 2.6.17-5mdv kernel, and I found, that when typing "lsmod" as a root I cannot find "fglrx" module... 13. Well, in my desperation I've decided to compile a new kernel (2.6.19.1). There are strong chances it won't even start, :P but I don't have any other ideas. See You soon :D
  14. I've managed to configure two of my e-mail accounts on KMail, so there is no problem getting and sending mail on them. But I don't know what to do to force KMail to collect my mail on startup. Also, anyone know how to make KWallet to remember the password, so I would not have to type it anytime I'm starting KMail?
  15. Maybe some additional info, please? Here are my personal suggestions: 1. What speakers do You have? 2. Do they work properly on other distro's/OS? 3. What distro (version) are You using? 4. A bunch of info about Your sound drivers would be very helpful, i.e. a. what driver are You using currently (in Mandriva 2007 You'll get it from output of "grep sound-slot /etc/modprobe.conf" command on console) b. is sound card module loaded? (print output of "lsmod" command as a root user) c. are "sound" and "alsa" services configured for running on initlevel 3? ("sbin/chkconfig --listsound" and "/sbin/chkconfig --listalsa").
  16. Hmm, and can You tell (write down ;) ) me what's all about adding these three lines to xorg.conf? What are they responsible for, and where did You find this tip? Of course if that's not a secret :P Thx in advance.
  17. Hi again ianw1974! ;) I tried You'r method by putting these 3 lines into my xorg.conf file, but unfortunatelly with no effect  But I also had some succes - i finally managed to install newest drivers from ATI's website, althought they're still not working properly. Here You can read about it, if You're interested...
  18. Well, in fact I'm a newbie :P I was using Windows XP since it was released, and, to be honest, I still think the way Windows forced me to. But I'll keep in mind Your advice jagwah.
  19. Is there a way to install previously stored on DVD updates from there, or I just have to copy them to /var/cache/urpmi/rpms each time I want to reinstall my Mandriva 2007?
  20. It did help :D Thanks a lot Gayle :woot_jump: Problem solved!
  21. When I'm using Firefox or Konqueror on my Mandriva 2007, I'm able to watch the videos on Youtube without having any problems. But in my Opera 9.02 I can only see "Loading..." on a black screen, and nothing is happenig. Now, I've installed the newest Java and Flash Player, and checked, that they are working properly, i.e. java tester shows as follows Java Runtime Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc. Java Runtime Version 1.5.0_09 CONGRATULATIONS, you have the Latest version of Java! What can be wrong?
  22. Few minutes ago I tried to install ATI drivers from "plf-nonfree" repository, in my desperation. And below are the results... Then I rebooted, and my Mandriva started with CL. "Startx" command didn't work, as the were some errors, something like "no properly configured display" or similar. So I had to copy back a backup file of xorg.conf to /etc/X11/ in order to start KDE. Still no direct rendering. Ehhhh
  23. A circle of helpfulness. Very, very nice :)
  24. You were right tyme. I redownloaded the file and and the installation process didn't show the error i listed above. But it still shows this... The xorg.conf file, as it s displayed above, is how it looked in my Mandriva 2007 before I made any changes suggested by You, ianw174. But it's not the original one, as few days before I post description of my graphic card issue, I wanted to set the display to my favorite resolution and refresh rate (1024x768 100Hz). I made some searching and finally found an advice to type in console gtf 1024 768 100 and put the result # 1024x768 @ 100.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 81.40 kHz; pclk: 113.31 MHz Modeline "1024x768_100.00" 113.31 1024 1096 1208 1392 768 769 772 814 -HSync +Vsync in xorg.conf file. I did that, and so get access to 100Hz refresh rate when using 1024x768 resolution. But still, every time I do a restart, I have my display set to 1024x768 85Hz. In "Desktop Configuration Panel" 85Hz lies before 100Hz, and I think that's the reason why I'm having this problem. Any ideas how to resolve it? Let's back to my main issue. Before changing or installing anything I ran "glxinfo | grep direct" command, and received answer as below [zibi1981@localhost ~]$ glxinfo | grep direct direct rendering: No Then I've modified xorg.conf (...) Section "Module" Load "dbe" # Double-Buffering Extension Load "v4l" # Video for Linux Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" # 3D layer Load "dri" # direct rendering EndSection Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection (...) and restarted my computer. But after that I still didn't have direct rendering. Then I tried to install newest ATI drivers, version 8.32.5, but I got this error [root@localhost ATI]# sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.32.5-x86.x86_64.run Creating directory fglrx-install Verifying archive integrity...Error in MD5 checksums: b5335f935c4790ab420a8ae08e269525 is different from 095ee06415d8206d9118db8160b78f66 . Just don't know what to do next...
