  1. The language question....hum...i think it is ALWAYS english in the boot-menu?! RTFM ;-) Perhaps there are some lilo-options for language.... Concerning Redhat i wonder if: You renamed Mandrake://boot/vmlinuz to Mandrake://boot/Mandrake-vmlinuz ? You copied the RedHat-vmlinuz to Mandrake://boot/RedHat-vmlinuz ? You did this procedure with Mandrake://boot/initrd.img ? So you got TWO vmlinuz under /boot and TWO initrd.img ? ??
  2. I don't want to install it, before beeing sure, what i get... It is called "demo". Does it mean the same as under Windows? 30MEgs of Game, just supporting one or two levels?? Or is it a UT-client for free?? Can i play without beeing connected against bots??
  3. I've got a server with two NICs. One to DSL, the other to the intranet. Because the intranet-NIC shouldn't be firewalled, i can'T use the original MAndrake security settings. They are blocking THE MACHINE, independend on what i am configuring (firewall on eth0, eth1, ppp0...). I need a firewall, that explicitly blocks ONE NIC, not the whole machine!!
  4. I think, the BIGGEST difficulty is getting Gnome2 to Aqua look, for getting GTK-Apps looking like qt-apps. It's really ugly, if the themes for gtk and qt aren't equal (--> buttons, dropdown,etc...) Only way i see to do this is installing Gnome1.4, there are several really good aqua GTK-themes, which then will be shown under kde, too... Second, the transparent widget isn't possible by now, as the magnifying icons in the panel...
  5. Additional, i recognized this problem only existing on machines with more than ONE CD-drive (equal if burner, SCSI or not). Cutting additional drives off had resulted in a working supermount on three machines here....
  6. Supermount may in FACT be the source... I've got problems with a machine, with two CD-drives... Every x seconds for about 6 times, he tries to find a CD layed in, independend of having one in or not. This happens every time, i am entering /mnt. Perhaps it's the same with the hd....
  7. I think, "upgrade" will change all settings, not only the installed packages, it is like installing over the old system... "only packages" looks for installed packages and changes them. Not a good idea, if you got something installed by source or from another rpm-source, because dependencies may be changing after update...
  8. Hallo Yeti, wie geht's?? I will be here more often now...
  9. If i am buying a LM-distro, do i get a detailed overview of the way, the different things like /etc/dynamic work together with the rest in form of printed documents? In other word: Is it worth buing it?? I like p.e. the books in earlier SuSE-Distros. They explain EVERYTHING, especially every /etc-entry...
  10. Ok, now the situation is Mandrake-lilo in front of all.. You have to think of the way, lilo boots. There is first harddisk to boot from, then a kernel, then a RAMdisk-image and then the partitition that loads the distribution. So, you have to put the redhat-kernel and -initrd.img in the /boot path of Mandrake. Rename each in lilo.conf.. Following an example: boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map vga=791 default=Mandrake keytable=/boot/de-latin1.klt compact prompt nowarn timeout=30 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw ignore-table image=/boot/Mandrake-vmlinuz label=Mandrake root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/Mandrake-initrd.img append="quiet devfs=nomount hdc=ide-scsi" vga=788 read-only image=/boot/Redhat-vmlinuz label=RedHat root=/dev/hda2 initrd=/boot/RedHat-initrd.img append="devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi" read-only other=/dev/hda3 label=windows table=/dev/hda other=/dev/fd0 label=floppy unsafe Nothing guaranteed, hadn't this prob before with mixed grub/lilo, but this should work...
  11. Perhaps the "gnome-truetype-daemon" is missing, when started via kdm. But this is just a spontaneous idea ;)
