  1. I don´t know about these builds but on Windows the optimised moox builds actually performed worse than the standard build: http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html
  2. I tried an older version of this software. I never did get to understand it but after a lot of trial and error I managed to get things right. Maybe this version is better, anyway there´s a free trialware version, so you can just use it to set things up quickly. http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/
  3. We do not provide any configuration helper utilities (ie, you won't find linuxconf in here) so you will quickly become very proficient at configuring your system from the shell commandline. That doesn´t sound like the distro for me yet. Too bad the mandriva rpm´s are only from ver 0.0.5, it´s just eyecandy, the latest build (0.0.9) actually has some handy useable features.
  4. Hey, where did you get those latest compiz/xgl packages from, are you running mandriva?
  5. Okay, the mouse wheel can also be made to function,as described here: http://forum.mandrivaclub.com/posting.php?...=quote&p=212014 But I'm not sure if this is the easiest way. Wouldn't it be possible to just add xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.fr /etc/X11/xinit.d/mouse_buttons /etc/X11/xinit.d/dbus to the startxgl script? BTW you need to change xmodmap.fr extension to whatever keyboard you use, I use an US keyboard, so it would be xmodmap.us BTW: compiz also functions quite nicely under KDE :)
  6. rename the file first to something more convinient like nvidia.run ;) and save it in an easy place like /home/maparus You'll have to install from failsafe mode though and make sure you have the kernel source of your particular kernel installed (can be the stripped version, saves a lot of space). When you're in failsafe type: init 3 cd /home/maparus sh nvidia.run But you can also try downloading the drivers from plf, the latest nvidia drivers were there a few hours after release and they are a lot easier to set up and (un)install.
  7. okay I copied /usr/lib/ and pasted in the same directory as libwnck-1.so.16 and now windows have borders, don´t know if this is a smart thing though....
  8. In Club Mandriva you can find a way to do it. Anyway if things mess up you´ll only mess up GNOME. Besides most GNOME components are already installed with Mandriva because most Mandriva tools rely on them. I found this out the hard way when I wanted to get rid of GNOME from my system, which uninstalled all of Mandriva´s tools too
  9. It was really easy to set up, easier then in Ubuntu, too bad about this libwnck thing though, it was a recent update, only last week, else everything would have worked the way it should out of the box.... But am I the only one here to have tried it?
  10. Thanks for the info. I decided to give it a try in Mandriva, unfortunately this package needs libwnck 1.6 and I´m on cooker and it has 1.8 so window borders are not drawn. BTW there´s a typo in the first line: gnome-controle-center should read gnome-control-center without an e after control.
  11. I had this problem too, with certain builds from Mandriva. One of the problems seem to be the icons which point to an older version of openoffice and are not updated (the openoffice programs are namen ooprogramx.y where x and y are major and minor version numbers ). I manually changed the menu from menudrake.
  12. Will Cedega make games work which fail under Wine?
  13. Nobody knows how to do this? Even in windows this is possible, changing the priotity....
  14. I tried for all the packages which had mde in their name and everything seems okay, I rebooted and I´m back in KDE and even GLX seems to be working.... urpmi --allow-force --allow-nodeps XXXX
  15. Yesterday I tried installing KDE 3.5.2 from MDE but that didn´t go very well. I´m left with a working Mandriva version of 3.5.1 of KDE but my Xorg somehow ¨updated¨ to mde. Now I can´t select packages anymore because packages seem to depend on older versions of xorg. But I can´t seem to go back because of this error without seemingly uninstalling just about everything.
  16. I want a fast up te date one :s
  17. Does anyone which are good mirrors, I noticed there´s actually a big difference in speed and update frequency of the repos.

That was a weird thing updating I removed kde 3.5.1 then tried loading the new kde got lot´s of errors any all of a sudden the old version was there again anyway got an answer to my own question: kcmshell /usr/share/applnk/.hidden/kicker_config_appearance.desktop

i´ll give mde a try, just hope I figure out how to change their K-menu button, it´s even uglier than Mandriva´s  Just hope this´ll go smoothly, yesterday I installed nVidia´s latest drivers and I see a lot happening with xorg and video drivers, keeping my fingers crossed....

How do we get it back again, is there some config file which can be editted?

    Kicker colour

I still can see any option. the appearance list changes the appearance of the applications docked in kicker

    Kicker colour

I really can´t see it
  23. According to the documentation there should be a tab ¨appearance¨ in the ¨configure panel¨ menu but I only have arrangement, hiding, menus and taskbar. How do I change the colour, the default grey is getting pretty boring... I have kde 3.51 installed from mandriva cooker...
  24. Look at my registry date, that´s when I installed. I´m about as n00b as you :P Probably one config file in your home directory is corrupted but I have no idea which one but my guess it´s in ~/.kde you could try renaming it and copying the /.kde folder from you´re new user to your old home dir
  25. Did you try making a new user and logging into KDE with that user?
