  1. After upgrading KDE to 3.5.2 via cooker, kdm doesn´t accept keyboard input anymore, when I restart X, I can ctrl alt f1 for a very brief time, doing service dm stop and then kdm brings back the keyboard, GDM still works and so does mouse input. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  2. Your Azureus icon looks nice where did you get it?
  3. Well this upgrade (from cooker 3.5.1 -> .2) didn´t go very smoothly either, argh!! KDM seems to kill all keyboard input (not mouse). I have to restart X and then press ctrl alt f1 during the start up give me a brief time of keyboard input
  4. 3.5.2has just been released in cooker :D
  5. You could also try making a new partition in windows with pq magic or acronis disktools, if there´s still a working windows install
  6. Switch off one drive in the bios. I had a similar problem with 2006.0 when one of my partitions had an invalid mft on it on a NTFS partition....
  7. I got specialised icon themes from kde-look but also from plf Hey look what I found: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=31152
  8. I really a lot newer to this linus thing than you (look at my registration date, it's my install date) but I messed up many times. I found the plf drivers to be easier to uninstall and go back to the previous state. And the good thing is they're available almost as soon as the original driver on the nvidia site is too. Messing with xorg or kde can have some nasty effects if you have the nvidia drivers installed (as we both already found out the hardway). But I leave a copy of the nvidia driver (and a stripped kernel source) lying around always as when things really don't want to work anymore a couple of reinstall can solve the problem sometimes. (another thing I found out is keep a good backup of /etc/fstab because small changes can really hang up even booting the kernel :S )
  9. put a # before the beginning of the the line to comment it out; Did you download your previous driver from plf?
  10. Did you install the driver from plf or from the nvidia site? This shouldn't be in your xorg if you installed from their site": /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/nvidia/libglx.so instead it should say: load "glx"
  11. I really wish I had a vanilla kde too. I found a couple of icon themes though which overide the Mandriva star :)
  12. Sounds very familiar indeed. I had more or less the same problems last week. I couldn't update mde's packages because I had something from cooker installed and urpmi refused to install because of some dependency. So I was left with a kde uninstall, half a mde xorg upgrade and xorg not starting up and after fixing that refusing to let me into any gui. I have a second partition with linux, if things really get messed up it's easier to fix from there, no messing with vi or emacs, trying out different xorg.conf edits and easy to download the nvidia driver from the nvidia site.
  13. bvc, is that the ubuntu human theme? Could you please tell me how to change the colour?
  14. I downloaded smart, it looks a bit like synaptic but still needs a lot of work in th GUI bit. Is it better (safer) than URPMI?
  15. Lol me too last week :D Maybe bigjohn has a backup of his xorg.conf from his pre install kde 352 time? usually there´s a xorg.conf~ from just before any changes were made. Anyway I think kde 3.5.2 will be available soon through cooker, some packages are already there....
  16. I´m sorry I forgot to copy the / ,it was in the shortcut however. I stopped the wine server and it still won´t run. (native linux builds for opera suck big time btw!)
  17. I´m trying to make a shortcut (both on the desktop and in one in k menu) to a wine application but it won´t launch, it launches when I directly click the .exe I´ve tried the command directly and with wine before it, eg: home/ffi/wine/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Opera 9 Beta/Opera.exe wine home/ffi/wine/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Opera 9 Beta/Opera.exe I´ve checked and my wine server is running. 18. Thanks, something I can understand :D
  19. I'm now using Ubuntu Dapper and Compiz is really getting, not only just nice looking, but also useable. To bad Mandriva won't even give us some toys to play with in the mean time.
  20. Thanks, for the info :). But to be honest, I rather ask than looking through man pages though because after reading a man page I know about as much about the command as before, only feeling more baffled :S (check man chmod  )
  21. Could someone explain to me what the difference between the /mnt and /media directory? and what the 1's and 2's (and sometimes 0's) mean in the following line? /dev/hda2 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 1 1 /dev/hda3 /media/hda3 ext3 defaults 1 2 And why are in both my Mandriva install aswell as my Ubuntu install 9 Cd-rom's listed? I only have 1 DVD player and one CD-rewriter?
  22. Mmm, that would be a bit strange. As I didn't change the monitor settings. I'm using a Liyama Vision Master Pro 454 @ 1280x1024. Will try those settings you suggested in a moment. We have the same graphics card and the almost the same monitor, here´s my xorg. BTW, when you tried XFdrake did you get a coloured screen or a blank black screen? 23. I´ve had this problem a couple of times, usually the answers lies in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. If you comment out the glx, dri and libglx.so entries and change the driver from nvidia to nv it helps to solve the problem. Also you could try running XFdrake from failsafe mode to try to fix it automatically. 24. [off topic]How easy is it to upgrade to another version of Mandriva, can this be done through the control center or urpmi, or should you download another CD?[/off topic]
