  1. I am using Mandrake 9.1 as my main distribution but I like to play around with other distro from time to time. In the past I've used a seperate partition for the /home when experimenting. Can I safely use my /home partition with different distro without causing too many problems???
  2. I use guarddog and I have found that if you disable guarddog from within the program (using the Advanced tab) that it flushes the iptables and leaves your system without any firewall. This leads me to think kilimanjaro, that there is something wrong with gnutella not your firewall (particulaly if you have not altered the protocols within your firewall. I haven't used gnutella so I can't help you there. Good luck!
  3. Great tip, (once I managed to get past my own firewall) Thanks
  4. Absolutely brilliant Liqudzoo :D there is indeed an option to clear the history using the right click button. Thank-you (I feel like such a dickhead for not looking for that in the first place ) anyway your help is very much appreciated.
  5. Thank you Liquidzoo, I just tried your suggestion and got he following error message kdesu: ERROR: Daemon not running -- nothing to stop The names on the drop down list have not changed. :(
  6. I'm sorry I should have said, the browser concerned is Konqueror. I have tried deleting cookies and browser cache but this does not do anything for me.
  7. Can anybody please advise me. I recently went to a site and typed in my username and then went to put in my password. Not being a very good typist I was looking at the keyboard and not the screen and I inadverantly typed in my passwork directly behind my user name. Now, whenever I type in my username a list of usernames drop down including the one with my password at the end of it. How can I get rid of the entries in the dropdown list???
  8. When I installed 9.1 I had to create my own symbolic link from /dev/cdrom to point to /dev/hdd. Up until then I had the same problem with being able to read data disc but not music. I did have supermount enabled at the time and the link sorted out my problems. If you are uncertain how to add a link post a reply. I hope this is of some help.
  9. Thanks chris z right on the button (and so quick too) there's nothing wrong with your memory :D
  10. Hi this seems a little petty but... I used to have a volume control icon on my task bar which I deleted and now when I want it back I cannot find how to restore it. Any ideas ??? I'm running Mandrake 9.1
  11. Yes !! THANK YOU  Your pointers have helped me greatly, my answer lies in umask. and so quick too
  12. Since upgrading to 9.1 I cannot access my windows partitions as an ordinary user. The permissions all the windows partitions are rwxr--r-- and I cannot get them to change, also in the modified colume there is no date or time and the owner and group names are all root. I have two partitions on hda and two win partitions and one linux on hdb, the linux partition mounts without any problem. My main linux system is on hdc. When the drives are not mounted the permissions are rwxrwxr-x, the date is shown and the owner & group are as the should be. But as soon as a win partition is mounted it reverts to the former setup. I have tried mounting the drives in several place, I've changed the security level but to no avail. Once mounted the umount command has no effect, the drives stay mounted until the system is rebooted. I tried a clean install but still the same. I have been using my current setup without any problem in 9.0. I would dearly love to be able to sort this problem out and would greatly appriciate any help I can get.
