  1. Try this one http://beelinetv.com/ , it's all foreign to me but there is a few channels to choose from
  2. Glad we got that sorted for you. I can sleep easy for now.
  3. We have done quite a lot of what is suggested there, but good to know they are listening. Is it radio you want? I thought it was video that was the problem because we have a workaround in what you are doing..
  4. Well I'm glad you got this far Jim, you can watch the news that way. The only other possible solution I can think of is the BBC window that comes up. In the top right corner is preferences. Did you change this at all because it defaults to windows media, you can change it to realplayer, but as I said way back I still have to open the video in a stand alone window to watch so I'm thinking the way you are doing it is probably the best. I have used the link that Greg2 suggested to watch and that plays fine it's just the BBC one that plays up. Anyway I think we can say for now sorted.
  5. Staying with firefox for now I notice that mplayer plugin is set to play realplayer files. To set this start your BBC player and when it loads mplayer instaed of realplayer right click in the video window and select configure from the pop up menu. In the list of selections you will find one that says something like play real player files. Un-select it and quit the configuration. Quit the video player and re-open it and you should be OK. As for the no sound in opera I'm not sure.
  6. Now we have got this far the thing to do is open firefox and type in the address bar about:plugins there you should see all the plugins that have been installed into firefox. Report back. Don't try and uninstall anything and definitely don't copy the codecs into mplayer.
  7. Have a sleep on it jim it will come clearer tomorrow. The quote you have put in was from Greg2. I say to put both in the same directory that is ~/.mozilla/plugins Forget about the components directory. Goodnight
  8. If you have a look in /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1 there you will find the components directory. If you wish you can put the nphelix.xpt in that one. I myself have it in the plugins directory where I put the nphelix.so file. RealPlayer works for me like that. Don't create the components directory you could start confusing mozilla and/or firefox.
  9. No there is one somewhere else already. I don't think you're going to need it.
  10. No this is not right Jim. When you open the hidden folder not file you should have another folder named plugins as well as the folder you describe firefox. Let's talk Linux and give theses folders the correct name which is directory. Folders are windows things. From what you say you are in your_home_directory/.mozilla (note the dot) it is this directory that should contain two more sub-directories firefox and plugins. If you don't have the latter one create it, then copy the nphelix.so file into it, leave the firefox one. Let me know what happens then. Greg2 beat me to it.
  11. I'll eat humble pie Greg ;) It's just that when I started way back with mandrake 10 I installed RealPlayer and then one had to symlink not copy both the files into another directory, I forget which now, and I was thinking of back then. Accept my apologies, I stand corrected. Anyway I have both files linked in my ~/.mozilla/plugins directory and that also works The only person I'm worried about confusing is Jim as we have come a long way to get to this point and I won't take offence I'm to old for that. ;)
  12. Yes with caution. You need to do the copying whilst using root permissions. I would normally do this via a shell terminal. I don't know how you are going to do it. If you have a problem with this let me know and I'll walk you through it. You will use this method quite often so it's worth getting it right and be confident. If you know and have used the su root method then carry on and you will have a working RealPlayer.
  13. Executable files only go to /usr/local/bin if you compiled the given program yourself. If you install from a package the executable filr goes to /usr/bin. Now that is from a member who knows Jim. Thank you Dexter I've just un-installed Realplayer and then re-installed it by double-clicking the rpm package. I now find a realplay script in usr/bin but still nothing in usr/local/bin. Just to make sure, do you agree with this? Not quite Jim, because you won't find a Mozilla components in your .mozilla directory. Either copy or link both the files into ~/.mozilla/plugins directory. We are very nearly there. Stay with it and we will win.
  14. Don't move anything Jim, if you back about 5 posts you will see where everything has been installed. Unfortunately Greg2 got a little confused and gave you the wrong location. Follow what I wrote in that post and you should be up and running.
  15. Ah well, first time of anyone seeing my desktop.
  16. I'm jumping ahead again. The squibble is shorthand for your home directory. If you don't know how to link please let us know.
  17. Sorry to hear that Arctic, about the lappy that is, not moving house. Anyways on to Jim if your still in the mood. I have been experimenting and found that Artics way of installing puts RealPlayer in /usr/lib/RealPlayer10GOLD/mozilla To get the whole thing working I finished up putting a soft link in ~/.mozilla/plugins Linking to nphelix.so & nphelix.xpt. This now puts me back where I was before. So it is my suggestion to do as I have done, that is install Real Player using Arctics method and the link as outlined above. I assume you know how to link, not being rude here. ;)
  18. I have just followed your directiions Arctic and RealPlayer does not show up in /usr/local/bin. As I recall it never has and I have been installing it since ver 10 Its always had its own directory in /usr/local/RealPlayer with a script in /usr/bin I have just installed helixplayer and that does not show up in /usr/local/bin ???
  19. Yes arctic is right here I forgot about those commands and the db. However jim is quite new at this sort of thing and I was trying to get the RealPlayer working as this is one application that he needs. I can almost guarantee that /usr/bin/realplay does exist and works. Go with whatever you feel comfortable with Jim, you can always experiment when you have things running. There are some very knowledgeable people in these forums, with much more knowledge on Mandriva than I have.
  20. I had a problem similar to this one and it turned out that I had inadvertently changed a switch setting in the kmix mixer. The setting in question was marked Exchange Front/Surround, and I set it to on. I only found this out by setting and re-setting all the switches. So if you have a via 8XXX mixer it may well be worth while having a look.
  21. A couple of questions here Jim, what version of RealPlayer and was it in rpm or some other form of package? Also try changing /usr/local/bin/realplay to /usr/bin/realplay
  22. Let's see if we can sort this out for you Jim. I have just this afternoon re-installed all my Firefox and RealPlayer so that I could start from scratch, a good exercise. Firefox has in fact taken a step backwards with regards to plugins, that is the plugins are now kept in /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.1/plugins which is where they kept them before. So in that folder you should have at least libnullplugin.so and libunixprintplugin.so now, RealPlayer has it's plugins in a folder /usr/local/RealPlayer/mozilla and there are two files in there nphelix.so & nphelix.xpt Firefox keeps track of these by using a file of it's own in your /home/.mozilla/firefox I have been able to watch BBC news from the BBC website with this configuration the only odd thing I had to do was to launch the video in a freestanding window. I was not able to use mplayer with the BBC as the site would not connect. I think that is problem with the site. The school teacher says you may proceed now. ;) I know it looks a lot to understand but most of it you don't really need unless you want to know. Linking is not a disaster usually but moving things about could well be. It sounds like you have everything in place so good luck.
  23. If you get to read this before re-installing I will give you my method for doing this and you can do the same or go your own way. I find the way I do it the best for me, but as with anything in Linux there are more ways than one to do things and you may have a way that is more comfortable for you. ;) To re-install I use the three cd set as I don't have a dvd writer, which ever way you install at first carry on. Once installed my second task is to replace all my sources with the urpmi ones as per website and update with urpmi --auto --auto-select This action along with the install takes roughly 1hr 30mins. I don't have to bother changing anything after that as all the sources are available when needed. Included backports, plf the lot. Only when I have a good running system do I start to change things. Update Firefox to the latest is usually my first step, and then bits I forgot to install or they weren't available before updating my sources. Obviously some of the process can be moved around to suit your needs but I would suggest first :- Do the install then Do the update And then do what you need after that. You should finish up with a nice new shiny running system. If after this you want to install something and it appears there is a problem then come back here and ask before getting in a knot. Usually canceling an install will not corrupt your system. I know occasionally it's too late and the application or whatever gets installed and then one finds out a problem, thats the way things go.
  24. If I read your post correctly, are you asking if this is the correct plugin you need to play files in firefox. If my assumption is correct then the answer is no. There should be a package named 'mplayerplugin-3.25-2mdv20070.0' which is the correct one. As for why xsane is not showing up I'm not sure. One of the differences between urpmi and the mcc is dependencies, mcc is pretty good at listing and selecting dependencies. It's not perfect but the guys sure are working on it. When things start getting a bit rough just take a step back, perhaps sleep on the subject and more often that not things become a little clearer. ;) I have solved many problems this way.
  25. no package named mplayerplug-in because the package is named mplayerplugin. Jim I suggest using mcc until you get more familiar with urpmi. You are doing the same thing but with a GUI which at this stage is better for you I think.
