      Forum software upgrade   10/29/17

So you may have noticed the forum software has upgraded !!!
A few things that have changed. We no longer have community blogs (was never really used) We no longer have a portal page.
We can discuss this, and decide whether it is needed (It costs money) See this thread: Here

  4. Noob needs help with Radeon 9800 driver

So here's a question for you, does the GX-150 have onboard video? My Gx1p does, and I think that's what has been causing my problems. If so, did you have to do anything special to disable it?
  5. New ATI _Installer_ *G*

    After several nights of unrest and working the graveyard shift, I was sitting around this morning and a thought popped in my head. I haven't disabled the on-board video under linux (ever). Now when I use windows, the onboard auto disables when I set DAC snooping to "off", but my money is on the fact that linux is still trying to us my 8mb of onboard glory. Now keep in mind there is 1) No jumpers on the Mobo 2) No option in the BIOS to disable the onboard video Dell's Forums say that it should auto disable when and Add-in controller is present, but how do I check this. In Windows, the device just fails to start (Code 10) when the add in is present, I'd go to the Device manager and just disable it, no big deal. Currently I'm set up as such: Dell Optiplex Gx1p Latest BIOS revision (A10 I beleive) ATI Radeon 9200 128mb (PCI) DAC Snooping "Off" Does anyone know where I'd go from here or need more info to make it so? Any help would be MOST, MOST, MOST appreciated. :phe4r;
  6. New ATI _Installer_ *G*

    Ok, first- upgrade to xorg 6.8 otherwise it will not detect an xorg installation second - on a fresh install of amndrake 10.1, after downloading the installer you have to change the permissions - "chmod 777 ati*" to get it to run --however -- after reboot I'm getting [root@box1 root]# glxgears 379 frames in 5.0 seconds = 75.800 FPS 280 frames in 5.0 seconds = 56.000 FPS and [root@box1 root]# glxinfo name of display: :0.0 display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: No server glx vendor string: SGI server glx version string: 1.2 server glx extensions: GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_OML_swap_method, GLX_SGI_make_current_read, GLX_SGIS_multisample, GLX_SGIX_fbconfig client glx vendor string: ATI client glx version string: 1.3 client glx extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_ARB_get_proc_address, GLX_ARB_multisample, GLX_ATI_pixel_format_float, GLX_ATI_render_texture GLX extensions: GLX_EXT_visual_info, GLX_EXT_visual_rating, GLX_EXT_import_context, GLX_ARB_multisample OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.2.1) OpenGL extensions: GL_ARB_imaging, GL_ARB_multitexture, GL_ARB_texture_border_clamp, GL_ARB_texture_cube_map, GL_ARB_texture_env_add, GL_ARB_texture_env_combine, GL_ARB_texture_env_dot3, GL_ARB_transpose_matrix, GL_EXT_abgr, GL_EXT_blend_color, GL_EXT_blend_minmax, GL_EXT_blend_subtract, GL_EXT_texture_env_add, GL_EXT_texture_env_combine, GL_EXT_texture_env_dot3, GL_EXT_texture_lod_bias glu version: 1.3 glu extensions: GLU_EXT_nurbs_tessellator, GLU_EXT_object_space_tess visual x bf lv rg d st colorbuffer ax dp st accumbuffer ms cav id dep cl sp sz l ci b ro r g b a bf th cl r g b a ns b eat ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 0x23 24 tc 0 24 0 r y . 8 8 8 0 0 16 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 None 0x24 24 tc 0 24 0 r y . 8 8 8 0 0 16 8 16 16 16 0 1 0 None 0x25 24 tc 0 32 0 r y . 8 8 8 8 0 16 8 16 16 16 16 1 0 None 0x26 24 tc 0 32 0 r . . 8 8 8 8 0 16 8 16 16 16 16 1 0 None 0x27 24 dc 0 24 0 r y . 8 8 8 0 0 16 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 None 0x28 24 dc 0 24 0 r y . 8 8 8 0 0 16 8 16 16 16 0 1 0 None 0x29 24 dc 0 32 0 r y . 8 8 8 8 0 16 8 16 16 16 16 1 0 None 0x2a 24 dc 0 32 0 r . . 8 8 8 8 0 16 8 16 16 16 16 1 0 None [root@box1 root]# Followed by... If only they could make it idiot proof, THEN it would be right on the money. My verdict: Graphical install = good Still having to figure out what's buggering up = not so good ATI releasing an installer on the day that I decide to switch completely to linux no matter what = priceless
  7. New ATI _Installer_ *G*

Linux drivers page Includes a new installer download (35 mb) realsed today, while I was grocery shopping *G*. I'll post my results asap.

That's everything except runlevel 1, but why you'd want it on level 1 anyways i don't know. Glad if I was any help.
  9. Noob needs help with Radeon 9800 driver

That section is correct, and the option to load dri was enabled, xorg was version 6.8.0, and then upgraded to 6.8.2 with the same issue. I've formatted my system yesterday, and will be installing a fresh install of linux (I can thank windows for this problem - stupid automatic updates breaking my install) so I'm not trying to troubleshoot my system right now, I'm just adding my 2 cents of experience, and looking for an answer as I'm SURE i'll run into this issue again this time around.
  10. Noob needs help with Radeon 9800 driver

lol, Right, however I'm still left at the fact that the driver is loaded but direct rendering is not working (which is where I see this topic heading). any suggestions?
  11. PHPbb vs Invisionboard

phpbb gets my seal of approval, as good as any i've tried, and free to boot. :phear:
  12. Noob needs help with Radeon 9800 driver

Chances are that you are going to recieve a vendor string of "mesa open gl" if this is the case and anyone can find an answer that's be much appreciated as I'm having the same symptoms, (basically that the driver is loading, but dri is off, and open gl is crap because it's not accessing the ATI opengl programming) and I haven't found a working solution yet.
  13. playing - other distros

I'd be glad to give it a try, I was going to reinstall Mandrake today anways as I was doing some spring cleaning and formatted my HD as a matter of course, but what odds which distro I install?
  14. Cannot print pdf files

details? what printer? what drivers installed? which distro? the more we know, the better we help. :phear:
  15. MySQL Unable to connect [solved]

From the manual There basically two reason why you'd get the error, either the server isn't running, or the mysql.sock (i gather from your post that's your socket name - the default is /tmp/mysqld.sock) doesn't exist anymore. This link should walk you through fixing both issues. good luck
