  1. Yes, I was talking about the subnet mask, sorry if I wasn't clear. Do both machines have a DHCP-assigned IP or a static one? Could you post the output from an 'ifconfig' (linux) and an 'ipconfig' (windows)?
  2. A friend of mine had a problem with his AMD in his Laptop. It wouldn't start the vmlinuz from the mandrake CD. It did boot the vmlinuz from Suse, so he's using that now on his laptop. He might be trying a newer version of Mandriva later on, at least, that's what he said at first, being a mandriva-user. But I think he's getting quite used to Suse now, but I'll try to get him back to our side... ;) But seriously, I think it could have something to do with the proc, but I'm only speculating. [edit] NVM, you've solved it already :P [/edit]

    Samba [solved]

If you want to have multiple accounts with own files, I'd suggest you use FTP (FTPS preferably). FTP will be easier to communicate over the internet also.

    webDAV

It might just be a problem at University of course. It worked over there when I was working on a Windows machine (damn thing only had windows, hurt my eyes, it did, I really hate that blue stuff in XP). Anyway, I've been noticing Konqueror isn't coping quite well there either, lots of file not found errors while logging in, and when I get in, I get file not found errors while changing dirs. DAV also says file not found, so it might just be a problem lying at the server, not at the client. Anyway, I'll see what it'll do in a while, I'm sure to let you know! In the mean time, any ideas are still welcome, as I'm not sure it's prob with the server. Greets!

What is IN that ifcfg file? You could type "kwrite <filename> &" without the quotes, and you could copy paste it to the forum more easily than with vi.

I looked into that one, I am supposed to have Coda for the kernel. modinfo gave me this: # modinfo coda filename: /lib/modules/2.6.8.1-12mdk/kernel/fs/coda/coda.ko.gz author: Peter J. Braam <braam@cs.cmu.edu> license: GPL vermagic: 2.6.8.1-12mdk 686 gcc-3.4 depends:

I guess so, when I went to the webDAV setup in Control Centre -> Mount Points -> webDAV, it started installing stuff which Mandriva found necessary. I suppose it was knowing what it was doing ;)

    webDAV

I used that as well, didn't matter (the -t davfs switch). Using mount.davfs didn't make a difference either... :-(

    webDAV

Okay, I've got the syntax: mount -o username=mjepson http://path.to.server.nl/users/mjepson /mnt/TUDelft But it returns: mount: No such file or directory Any ideas?

    webDAV

Nope, I can't get it to accept my username. Tried: mount http://path.to.server.nl/users/mjepson:mjepson /mnt/TUDelft mount mjepson@http://path.to.server.nl/users/mjepson /mnt/TUDelft mount http://mjepson@path.to.server.nl/users/mjepson /mnt/TUDelft still no luck....

Then it will ask me for my password. Which is always wrong, cause it's trying that password for user: (yep, that's empty) It doesn't ask me for a username, but I can't find out any help for mounting davfs in the manpages of mount...

You could also look in your Control centre under hardware, to see if your card is recognised . If not, it might give an indication to it's type and/or brand, if not, you'll have to consult your motherboard's manual to find that one out. If it is recognised, that is wonderful, if not, please try and post it's type and/or brand.

    webDAV

The people at university have been as kind as to give me 200 Megs of space on a webDAV server. But the only problem is, I can't get it to mount properly. (Or at all, even). I set it up correctly using Mandriva Control Centre, and it seems to mount it OK (it gets past the authentication), but I can't see my files in '/mnt/TUDelft/'. I tried to give a mount command from the terminal as root as well as as myself, no luck. I don't know how to give the complete command though, so I just tell it to 'mount /mnt/TUDelft', but it says there is no such device. 'mount.davfs /mnt/TUDelft' says everything went fine, but I still can't see my files Does anybody have any experience with this?! BTW: I'm using Mandriva 10.1 at the moment.
  14. I have MDK 10.0 on my laptop. My specs: Intel PentiumIII 500 MHz 128M RAM 6 Gb HardDisk 2.5 Mb unknown videocard (but it works fine)
  15. And you really think windows is more consistent? I guess I can only say: welcome to the wonderous world of computers!
  16. Problem is that you had the nVidia-drivers coming WITH your distro. I have no experience with that (since I am a free download leecher ;-) ) Anyway, you'll have to find a way to remove the 'standard' nVidia-install. After that, you can install the new one. The installing shouldn't give any problems then. You'll probably have to do a bit of changing in the xorg.conf I guess, but that shouldn't be a problem. If you don't have direct rendering after that, check my other thread (name something like: "nVidia driver -> direct rendering: no"), I have explained how to make the install complete in 10.1 (since you'll probably have some miss-linked GLsomething.so files like I had).
  17. You should have run "nvidia-update" as root to get the latest drivers. The problem might be that you are trying to insall new drivers while the older ones are still installed... I'm afraid that's my best guess... i've never had the problem....
  18. User lui sgm ??? Am I missing anything here? Or is lui sgm your username in linux? This is not a message I have ever encountered... You did use rpm --rebuild filename.src.rpm did you? And you did do that while being root?

    Torrents?

I use btdownloadgui.py file.torrent --max_upload_rate 15 I need to restrict the upload, because it strangely tends to stop downloading due to my upload going overboard. (You need a bit of upstream to be able to download).
  20. But doesn't your harddrake detect 2 different sound-cards? If you have your onboard enabled AND a PCI built in your PC, harddrake should detect both. If it now only detects the onboard correctly, you might have problems when you disable that one, because harddrake might not find your PCI card at all. And you should be able to tell harddrake which soundcard to use as primary too (I think, I never had 2 soundcards in one system). But disabling your onboard in the bios is definately the way to go if you don't want to use it anyway.
  21. But I did have it working with exactly the same ALSA-driver under mdk 10.0 ... I even re-installed the program (I had it installed on my home-partition, so I didn't re-install it after installing mdk 10.1), but there still is no difference... The linuxquestions.org information was about people with OSS-drivers wanting doom3 to work with it. It works natively with ALSA (as far as I understand anyway). I've tried changing the sound-buffer in KDE, but that didn't change a thing. I even set the sound to NOT realtime priority, but that too had no effect. I'm kinda lost out here...
  22. Sorry 'bout that! I completely looked over the ".src." part of the filename.
  23. I finally have doom3 working again, but now the sound is messed up and it's slowing down the game too. Here is the output of doom3: $ ./doom3 DOOM 1.1.1286 linux-x86 Nov 24 2004 17:56:04 GetLocalAddress failed: gethostbyname failed: localhost host not found ------ Initializing File System ------ Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/game00.pk4 with checksum 0x7dafc4d4 Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/game01.pk4 with checksum 0x16cf3b8a Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak000.pk4 with checksum 0x28d208f1 Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak001.pk4 with checksum 0x40244be0 Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak002.pk4 with checksum 0xc51ecdcd Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak003.pk4 with checksum 0xcd79d028 Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak004.pk4 with checksum 0x765e4f8b Loaded pk4 /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak005.pk4 with checksum 0x8ffc3621 Current search path: /home/mjepson/.doom3/base /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak005.pk4 (63 files) /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak004.pk4 (5137 files) /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak003.pk4 (4676 files) /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak002.pk4 (6120 files) /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak001.pk4 (8972 files) /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/pak000.pk4 (2698 files) /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/game01.pk4 (2 files) /home/mjepson/games/doom-3/base/game00.pk4 (2 files) game DLL: 0x0 in pak: 0x0 file system initialized. -------------------------------------- ----- Initializing Decls ----- ------------------------------ ------- Initializing renderSystem -------- using ARB renderSystem renderSystem initialized. -------------------------------------- 5151 strings read from strings/english.lang Couldn't open journal files execing editor.cfg execing default.cfg execing DoomConfig.cfg couldn't exec autoexec.cfg 5151 strings read from strings/english.lang ----- Initializing Sound System ------ sound system initialized. -------------------------------------- ----- R_InitOpenGL ----- Setup X display connection dlopen(libGL.so.1) Initializing OpenGL display Using XFree86-VidModeExtension Version 2.2 DGA DirectVideo Mouse (Version 2.0) initialized Free86-VidModeExtension Activated at 640x480 Using 8/8/8 Color bits, 8 Alpha bits, 24 depth, 8 stencil display. But still, it seems to have BIG problems with doom3... I'm also not sure about the other errors about the textures, I don't know if I should just ignore these? The graphics look quite OK to me... 24. Well, I don't know if it's worse than K3B. But I won't be trying it, since K3B does everything I expect from a burning-tool. And WITHOUT all the graphical nonsense. And I don't expect Nero to give me any more or better features than K3B does. But for this sort of things, it might be worth a try.
