  1. Sorry, you are right. I didn't mean to change the /usr/local/bin instructions. I don't use /usr/local/games at all, that's all I was referring to when I said to substitute.
  2. check http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...1922&highlight= this post and see if it helps you out any.
  3. I install all my games in ~/games by default. It's just the biggest partition I have, so it seems logical to me; but everything works just fine for me. I'm not sure why it's not working for you. I would suggest going through DOlson's tutorial for your install of Uplink. Just substitute /usr/local/* with your directory of choice for your install. That should work for you just fine.
  4. Has anyone done this? I don't have a ps/2 keyboard anymore, so if the keyboard I have doesn't work, I'm screwed.
  5. Has anyone installed Mandtake 9.1 with a USB keyboard? I know that the keyboard itself will work, but I'm wondering if it will work in the installer. My keyboard didn't work in the install of 9.0, had to dig out an old ps/2 keyboard for the install; but I've since gotten rid of that keyboard and I want to upgrade to 9.1. Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on this. Thanks
  6. hmmm.... That is puzzling. I will have to do some checking for you when I get home on a possible cause. I'm at work right now and don't have my laptop with me.
  7. And the linux version is super easy to install. DOlson made a great tutorial (as always) for installing it in Linux. Check the first post in this thread for a link to it.
  8. I have played and continue to play this game. I love it. I have it installed on both Windows and Linux partitions (dual boot on both of my machines).
  9. From the Nvidia website: Hope this helps you out. Welcome to Linux. Browse the pages here and you will learn a lot. answers to all (or most) of your questions about Linux can be found here.

I agree that that game looks good. I hope that we do get more games like that ported to Linux.
  11. Ummm...I think you have to decode the HEX on the game box itself. That's what I get from the hints on the sites I've visited.
  12. Oh yeah, I had to go to 3 stores to find this, and I got the last copy at the third; but I do know you can either order the game from the companies website: http://www.introversion.co.uk/uplink/ or if you really want to, you can get it from http://www.walmart.com/
  13. I see that. Funny how that works out sometimes. by the way, it's been a while since I've been to your site DOlson, I like the new design.
  14. I have a Siemens Speedstream wireless card on my Inspiron 8200 with Mandrake 9.0. My post here: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...1922&highlight= details how I got it to work.
  15. Check out my post here: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php...1922&highlight= I've got Mandrake 9.0 installed and running on my Inspiron 8200.
  16. This game has been out for about a month and a half here in the US, longer in the UK; but it's worth mentioning. The game I'm referring to is Uplink: Hacker Elite (in the UK, I think it's just Uplink). You can get the demo here: http://www.introversion.co.uk/uplink/ There's a linux version of the demo, and full linux version included on the cd. I bought it today. It's a pretty great game, though not as graphical as most games out now are, but it's a lot of fun. Check it out.
  17. I was having similar problems until I tried eroaster. It's very easy to burn images. Make sure, however, that you are added to the cdrecord group otherwise, for me at least, eroaster won't even detect your burner.
  18. Thanks for the tips. I installed eroaster and it is exactly what I was looking for. Made burning the image files very easy.
  19. Haven't tried that one, is it easier to burn iso images using it?
  20. This is probably an easy question, but I can't seem to figure it out, so here goes: I want to know how to burn a .iso image to a cd. I can't seem to figure it out, and I don't want to coaster all of my blanks trying. I am using Gnome-Toaster if that helps. I would like to use k3b, but I can't get it to burn on my system, keeps saying it can't recognize my burner. Anyway, easy question, but I needed to ask it. Thanks.
  21. Doesn't seem to be working on my 8200 with MDK 9. Another question related to the resolution problem, though. If I leave my laptop long enough for the screensaver to come on, it seems to screw up the resolution. My only option is to log out and back in again. I would like for it not to do this at all, but I'm not sure how I would go about doing so. Would it have something to do with my choice of monitor? (I chose Generic Flat Panel 1400x1050)
  22. That would definitely explain it. I'm still wondering about the 2 copies of gkrellm running on boot, though. That one has got me a bit puzzled.

I also have supermount disabled, but only on my cd rom drives. It is still enabled on the floppy drive and the install went off without a hitch.
  24. Ok, now I am having an issue with my laptop. Maybe someone can help me out. I want to be able to close the lid and have it suspend. I know it is set to do so in the bios so I figured I would give it a try. The first time I tried it from within KDE. When I opened the lid, all I got was a garbled screen. I couldn't see anything. Ctrl-Alt-Backspace didn't do anything, I had to hard reboot the machine to get it back. Then I tried locking the screen, so that it was basically off before I closed the lid. This time I didn't get the garbled screen, but when I woke it up, the resolution was all messed up. It almost looked like it was trying to put my screen on a monitor that is 4 times the size that it is. The last thing I tried was closing the lid from the command prompt. This seems to work just fine. I woke it back up and everything was just fine. I don't want to have to log out of KDE each time I want to take my laptop anywhere, I would like it to just suspend when I close the lid; baring that, I would like it to not screwq with the resolution when I lock the screen and reopen it. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do about this? Totally unrelated to this issue, but I also have another thing that is annoying me. When I start KDE I have 2 copies of gkrellm running. One where I want it to be, and the other on the top left hand side of the screen. The one I want there has the theme on it, the other does not. Does anyone know how I can make it so only one copy of gkrellm starts each time I boot my computer up? Also, this is only happening on my laptop. I have no problems like this on my desktop. Thanks in advance for any help anyone has.
  25. It seems like the ~/.kde2 dir appeared after I upgraded Open Office.org. That's just my guess since the only thing in that folder is Icons for OO. I seem to remember seeing a post for deleting the ~/.kde and ~/.kde2 directories when upgrading to rc5. I could be wrong, but I don't want to mess this up since this is the first time I have done anything like this. Do I have to download all the files? Can I urpmi it from the command prompt and have it work without downloading the files? I was just curious.
