  1. I've read an article about the dual core technology, and didn't understand one thing: If i have 2 CPUs and only one RAM, how do they manage the bandwidth between them? As i understand that, each of the CPUs will run on 50% of its maximum offisiancy, right? So what is the advantage on a single core CPUs?
  2. I personally have 2 PCs: - Pentium 3 550 with Linux & Win98SE - Pentium 4 2.4 mHz with WinXP I think my next one will be AMD 64bit
  3. Few days ago i had a debate with a friend about what CPU people prefer on their desktops. He claims that majority use Intel ones so i decided to check that out in this small survey :D Please vote and explain your choise! P.S. REMEMBER: more votes - better statistics !!!
  4. First of all: I use proxy on my XP box, Win98SE is on Linux box (dual boot) B) Second: I'll be glad to help you any time :D
  5. I actually did this, but the card still does not work properly
  6. Hi, Iwant to set up the new GNOME 2.12 desktop on my MDK 10.1, the only prolem is that i don't know how. I've never compiled a thing in Linux and it seems like i should compile GNOME from scratch. Help me please! P.S. If the is another way to install GNOME - tell me
  7. Hi, I also connect to internet from MDK 10.1 through XP and it works fine. What i did is pretty simple: I installed a small proxy on XP and configured MDK to connect to it. If your LAN cars are OK and you can ping each one - then that should work for you. P.S. I use a USB ADSL modem on XP and this is my proxy.
  8. I wander what's so great in Opera. I downloaded it, doesn't impress me: all features resemble Mozilla/Firefox, doesn't run fuster AND it has promos - hate that. After all, I think that the simplysity of Firefox & Epiphany bits all other browsers, so i'll stick to them.
  9. Thanks man, you really answered my question.
  10. Thats my simple desktop in red colors. Like it... P.S. I like that Ubuntu logo, looks fresh
  11. Hi, I have an old radeon 7000 graphics card that does me loads of problems when i install it instead my current one (see below). Where can i get drivers for it (i can't find it anywhere) Thanks
  12. What about the Netscape? It looks just like Mozilla 1.7.X and offers almost the same.
  13. What is the best internet browser in your opinion? I wonder if there is any major difference between Mozilla, FireFox and Netscape. They look similar and are based on the same core, so it must be some catch there... Also, is there any other good browsers i should try? Thanks [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  14. No, but i'll definitely try
  15. Hi, I wanted to share a single folder with all users on my box and to share it on the LAN, so i created a folder in /home, named it 'Share', configured the samba and changed the permissions so that everyone can modify that folder. Everything works well, but everytime i logout and then login, the permissions change back to root (only the root can modify). - Why does that happen? - Is it possible to share the folder outside /home/user with everyone, like i want? Thanks. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  16. Maybe you should try this: chmod XYZ /your_file See this for an example: chmod
  17. Yes, it seems to be a good idea, thanks. The only disadvantage with MC, for me, is that i'm not used to it and i want something more familiar, perhaps the conqueror with root privileges.
  18. So how do i do that, even if it's wrong?
  19. Hi, I have a question: - is it possible to log in as root in a KDE/Gnome ? - how can i log in without starting X (only console)? Thanks moved from Tips and Tricks by mystified
  20. Hi, i've heard that wine is a windows emulator for linux. Can you tell me more a bout it? - how it works - fetures - advantages & disadvantages - links to relevant web pages - anything else i should know before using it Thank you ! [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  21. Look at the article that i found in www.linux.org.ru: http://news.com.com/Microsofts+eye+on+open...tml?tag=nefd.ac What do you think about that guys?
  22. I'm pretty sure that the graphic card is installed well, it works flowlessly on KDE.
  23. Why is that? I give you an example: when i want to open a menu by clicking the right mouse button, i see it appears after some delay; that never happened to me in KDE. Everything that changes the appearance of windows takes some time, and that really drives me crazy!!!
  24. I probably won't do that, because my little bro uses internet connection more frequently than me and he doesn't know a heck about linux (he uses XP), so i'll leave the modem connected to XP box. Anyway, thanks
