  1. Fuf... I'm so stupid! I've didn't connect properly all my devices, didn't run bios IDE configuration tool and messed all my grub entries... Now its OK, thank you.
  2. No, doesn't work. It says that there is no such a disc and gives me an error.
  3. Quanta is a part of kdewebdev package. If you use mandriva, simply type in terminal "urpmi kdewebdev", as root of course.
  4. What is the icon set? Looks nice.
  5. No, but maybe i've messed my master/slave priority? Currently i have: the debian (hda) hd sits alone on IDE as a master (i should check this though...) the other hd (hdc, mandi) is master and CD-ROM a slave on other IDE bus.
  6. This is my first experience of installing OSes on more than one hd. I have hdc with XP and Mandriva on it and hda with Debian. During Debian installation i was asked if i want to set up grub on MRB and answered yes. On reboot i got the old Mandriva grub screen with no debian in it. Question: what should i add to menu.lst in order to have Debian boot option? Mandriva's menu.lst (the working one): timeout 10 color black/cyan yellow/cyan gfxmenu (hd0,6)/boot/gfxmenu default 0 title linux kernel (hd0,6)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=/dev/hdc7 splash=silent vga=788 initrd (hd0,6)/boot/initrd.img title failsafe kernel (hd0,6)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=failsafe root=/dev/hdc7 failsafe initrd (hd0,6)/boot/initrd.img title windows root (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader +1 debian's menu.lst: default 0 timeout 5 color cyan/blue white/blue title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.18-4-686 root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-4-686 root=/dev/hda1 ro initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-4-686 savedefault title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.18-4-686 (single-user mode) root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-4-686 root=/dev/hda1 ro single initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.18-4-686 savedefault title Other operating systems: root title linux (on /dev/hdc7) root (hd1,6) kernel /boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=/dev/hdc7 splash=silent vga=788 initrd (hd0,6)/boot/initrd.img savedefault boot title failsafe (on /dev/hdc7) root (hd1,6) kernel /boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=failsafe root=/dev/hdc7 failsafe initrd (hd0,6)/boot/initrd.img savedefault boot title Microsoft Windows XP Professional root (hd1,0) savedefault makeactive map (hd0) (hd1) map (hd1) (hd0) chainloader +1
  7. Read here about GNOME and KDE. In general, they are based on different libraries, look different and have different ideology behind. This forum has a plenty of discussions on this topic. Look here for example: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=39472&view=findpost&p=297532 ://https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?...t&p=297532 ://https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?...t&p=297532 ://https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?...t&p=297532
  8. On my opinion, quanta is the best. Tried Bluefish and Scream, but Quanta is suited more for my needs (and it resembles MS InterDev which i liked very much).
  9. New one: every time i reboot, i can't connect to the internet. I have to deactivate and then activate back my NIC. That is strange, because right after the install i had a working connection. Any ideas?
  10. Hi, I've installed Debian 4.0. Now, i want to install new packages and update the system, and here i'm lost. How do i manage my repos in debian? Where do i get all the mirrors? Basicaly, i'm looking for a substitution for an urpmi and its mirrors. Thanks.
  11. The bugs that i had/have that really annoy me: - bad package signatures FIXED - FireFox crushes spontaneously - no idea why, gone without me doing a thing about it - sometimes I can't shut down the system - it freezes after i click Log Out-->Turn off computer - segmentation fault errors during update Except these ^ - all perfect.
  12. I didn't try Mandriva 2007, but for now 2007.1 is buggy and less stable than Kubuntu 6.10 that i've tried before.
  13. I reinstalled the plugin as tyme said by downloading a rpm from adobe site, so i suppose it was the latest. According to "about:plugins" i have a Shockwave Flash 9.0 r31 plugin. Now FF turns off spontaneously, and i can't find any clue why it happens. I think AussieJohn had the same experience as i did with FF, look here.
  14. OK. I updated, no harm so far. Thanks everyone.
  15. There is no smoke without the fire, isn't it? ;)
  16. Yes, I did. Ok now, but still i don't like that problems such as these appear from nowhere.
  17. Is that normal? I've updated my system many times before and never seen this.
  18. Got this when i tried to update: [root@mdk ilia]# urpmi --auto-select One of the following packages is needed: 1- kernel-source-stripped-2.6.17.13mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The source code of th e Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 2- kernel-tmb-desktop-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-desktop-smp-2.6.20.4-1mdv (to install) 3- kernel-tmb-desktop-devel-2.6.20.4-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-devel f iles for kernel-tmb-desktop-2.6.20.4-3mdv (to install) 4- kernel-tmb-server-devel-2.6.20.4-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-devel fi les for kernel-tmb-server-2.6.20.4-3mdv (to install) 5- kernel-tmb-source-2.6.20.4-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The Linux source code for kernel-tmb-2.6.20.4-2mdv (to install) 6- kernel-vserver-source-stripped-2.6.19.1-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The source c ode of the Linux kernel stripped for post build (to install) 7- kernel-tmb-desktop586-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel- devel files for kernel-tmb-desktop586-smp-2.6.20.4-2mdv (to install) 8- kernel-tmb-source-2.6.20.4-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The Linux source code for kernel-tmb-2.6.20.4-3mdv (to install) 9- kernel-tmb-desktop-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-desktop-smp-2.6.20.4-3mdv (to install) 10- kernel-source-2.6.17.13mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 11- kernel-tmb-server-devel-2.6.20.4-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-devel f iles for kernel-tmb-server-2.6.20.4-2mdv (to install) 12- kernel-tmb-desktop586-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel -devel files for kernel-tmb-desktop586-smp-2.6.20.4-1mdv (to install) 13- kernel-tmb-server-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-server-smp-2.6.20.4-1mdv (to install) 14- kernel-linus-smp-devel-2.6.21-0.rc3.4mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-linu s-smp devel files for 3rdparty modules build (to install) 15- kernel-linus-source-2.6.21-0.rc3.4mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The source code fo r the Linux kernel (to install) 16- kernel-multimedia-laptop-devel-2.6.17.14-5mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel -devel files for kernel-multimedia-laptop-2.6.17.14-5mdv (to install) 17- kernel-tmb-server-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-server-smp-2.6.20.4-2mdv (to install) 18- kernel-multimedia-desktop-smp-devel-2.6.17.14-5mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The k ernel-devel files for kernel-multimedia-desktop-smp-2.6.17.14-5mdv (to install) 19- kernel-vserver-source-2.6.19.1-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The source code for the Linux kernel (to install) 20- kernel-tmb-desktop-devel-2.6.20.4-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-devel files for kernel-tmb-desktop-2.6.20.4-1mdv (to install) 21- kernel-tmb-desktop586-devel-2.6.20.4-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-desktop586-2.6.20.4-1mdv (to install) 22- kernel-tmb-desktop-devel-2.6.20.4-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-devel files for kernel-tmb-desktop-2.6.20.4-2mdv (to install) 23- kernel-tmb-server-devel-2.6.20.4-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-devel f iles for kernel-tmb-server-2.6.20.4-1mdv (to install) 24- kernel-tmb-desktop586-devel-2.6.20.4-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-desktop586-2.6.20.4-2mdv (to install) 25- kernel-tmb-source-2.6.20.4-1mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The Linux source code fo r kernel-tmb-2.6.20.4-1mdv (to install) 26- kernel-multimedia-desktop-devel-2.6.17.14-5mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kerne l-devel files for kernel-multimedia-desktop-2.6.17.14-5mdv (to install) 27- kernel-tmb-desktop-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-2mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-de vel files for kernel-tmb-desktop-smp-2.6.20.4-2mdv (to install) 28- kernel-tmb-server-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-server-smp-2.6.20.4-3mdv (to install) 29- kernel-multimedia-source-2.6.17.14-5mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The source code for the Linux kernel-multimedia-2.6.17.14-5mdv (to install) 30- kernel-multimedia-laptop-smp-devel-2.6.17.14-5mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The ke rnel-devel files for kernel-multimedia-laptop-smp-2.6.17.14-5mdv (to install) 31- kernel-tmb-desktop586-smp-devel-2.6.20.4-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel -devel files for kernel-tmb-desktop586-smp-2.6.20.4-3mdv (to install) 32- kernel-linus-devel-2.6.21-0.rc3.4mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-linus de vel files for 3rdparty modules build (to install) 33- kernel-tmb-desktop586-devel-2.6.20.4-3mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586: The kernel-dev el files for kernel-tmb-desktop586-2.6.20.4-3mdv (to install) What is your choice? 19. New one: each time i try to view a page that contains some flash i get this: [ilia@mdk ~]$ firefox Flash Player: Warning: environment variable G_FILENAME_ENCODING is set and is not UTF-8 /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.3/run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 4912 Segmentation fault "$prog" ${1+"$@"} [ilia@mdk ~]$ WTF ? Same happens with the FF i downloaded from FF site, so it must be a flash-plugin problem. Any thoughts?
  20. Cool, great solution for all problems :P
