  1. Some more info: DRI failed to load according to XOrg.0.log. This means only 2D acceleration is available. 3D is not. I'm also using the Mesa GLX Indirect according to the "glxinfo | grep direct" command. And I'm also running LE2005 on the machine now, since I thought upgrading may help to resolve the issue. So no longer XFree86, but XOrg, and I downloaded and installed the XOrg drivers too from ATI's website).
  2. Have tried using agpgart as well as without, and still seem to have problems trying to get direct rendering or fps anywhere over 280! Any ideas?

    Boot Errors

initrd errors: Solved by ensuring that the code read like this in /etc/rc.sysinit (which on my system is a link to /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit (look for the section "Unmount the initrd, if necessary"). if [ -e /initrd/dev/.udev.tdb -a ! -e /dev/devfsd ]; then mount --move /initrd/dev /dev else umount /initrd/dev fi This solved the umount on startup, as well as the S01halt and S01reboot on shutdown. Then, I had to look at resolving the usb issue, which adamw kindly gave the solution: The usbfs entry, replaced usbdevfs to resolve the problem. Another error I had was: mount: none already mounted or /dev/pts busy This was in /etc/fstab. I removed the line, and now, no more of a problem. I was comparing against my 10.1 system, which didn't have this, so thought, I must not need it, or it's dealt with in another way. My upgrade to LE2005 has been a success! :P
  4. Fixed the problem with init error, had to edit rc.sysinit file, and make a few changes. Will post in my boot post, which is linked here: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=25224 These are everything I experienced when removing devfsd and installing udev, as devfsd doesn't seem to be supported by updated kernels. Note: my upgrade to LE2005 has been a success! The only thing I had to do other than this, was fix XOrg by downloading the ATI drivers specific for this, and then compiling from the prompt, and configuring XOrg, and all was OK with the GUI after this. Oh, and install kernel 2.6.11 before I rebooted for the first time after doing the upgrade through urpmi.
  5. I checked the hotplug one, and this was fine, it had lines to check and run either usbfs or usbdevfs depending on what was available. The one in rc.d/init.d wasn't. I edited the action line and changes to usbfs, and the error has now gone away. However, since switching to udev and removing devfs, I also get this error, which I put in another post with all these errors to: Unmounting initrd: umount /initrd device is busy And depending on shutdown or reboot, the following: /etc/rc6.d/S01halt (or S01reboot) line 62: initrd - readonly warning Trying to figure out why this appears!!
  6. Burning on CDR or RW is fine, it's just possible that either the ISO image is slightly corrupt in some way, or that the CD's you burnt to have a problem - bad sectors, marks, anything like this that could cause problems during install.
  7. I installed udev, and removed devfsd, but get the errors still, so am assuming I need to edit the line that says usbdevfs and replace with usbfs. I just not sure where the file is!

    Boot Errors

Getting a few errors on boot, after upgrade to LE2005 via urpmi. I removed devfsd and installed udev instead and modified the LILO accordingly. I'm using kernel-2.6.11. However, I get these errors - but the system boots OK. These are (in order): Unmounting initrd: umount /initrd device is busy Mount usb file system mount: fs type usbdevfs not supported by kernel netfs: Mounting other file systems failed mount: none already mounted or dev/pts busy On shutdown the error: /etc/rc6.d/S01halt line 62: initrd - read only warning. I added a line to mtab which said: none proc/bus/usb usbfs rw 0 0 thinking that this might resolve the problem, but the usbdevfs still appears! Any ideas as to how I can stop these appearing?
  9. :P I'm well happy. Just upgraded to LE2005 using the URPMI sources, and it works fine. Only had a couple of errors: Mount usb file system mount: fs type usbdevfs not supported by kernel. Issue with lm_sensors (so I removed it) Issue with postfix (so I removed that too) So the only one remaining is the one above about usbdevfs.
  10. Doh, true yes! I was assuming there was! Oh well.....
  11. I had a similar situation for thinking of upgrading 10.0 to 10.1. I thought about using ssh, and then setting up a urpmi to point through the network to my dvd-rom drive in the other machine. Not sure if this is feasible or not!
  12. To check which kernel you're running, type the following: uname -r This will then output what is currently active. There doesn't seem to be a kernel source for i686, so I would assume that you would install the kernel source you found already. Make sure it matches your existing kernel! The one that mentions "source" in it is your kernel source. The other, is another kernel version (i586).
  13. Have just finished downloading all the updates, am about 45 minutes ahead of my predicted time! Have to see how the rest of the day pans out, to see if it will all be working straightaway, or whether I'll have to do some fixing!!!
  14. Solarian, thanks for that! I'll make sure I get that then before I reboot for the first time. If the updates haven't pulled it down by default, I'll pull it from software install, along with the kernel-source as well. Once again
  15. Thanks! I hope it works! Reason why I'm attempting this way is that I don't have access to a faster link, and therefore updating 242MB isn't that bad, compared to downloading 2GB of ISO media. My major worries are that it's XFree86 with 10.0 and XOrg with the later versions. Hopefully, it'll sort itself out on reboot, and not attempt to run both at the same time!! Ah, well, this afternoon will tell where I end up! It'll sure be fun anyway :P
  16. I'm upgrading MDK 10.0 OE to MDV LE2005, and found that I've had to add all sources, as when I just had updates, it said I couldn't satisfy dependencies. I added: main contrib jpackage updates plf-free plf-nonfree I removed all other sources prior to the upgrade though, so that it doesn't pull anything from older unwanted sources. Well, saying that, I'm still in the process of the upgrade! I only have 128Kbps broadband here, and 242MB to download, so it will be kept busy for a couple of hours if not more! (I estimate 50MB per hour, so will be about 2pm/3pm or so).
  17. I spoke to the support people, and they say there's nothing you can do about it. I mentioned being able to create the directory and zero byte file, but they said they couldn't comment on this! Guess will have to live with the error! Solved I guess :P
  18. This is solved now! Just had to run alsaconf and then make user member of audio, and unmute sound!
  19. Hi scarecrow, That worked! I made them a member of audio, but I also had to unmute the sound which I did first. It was definitely making a member of the group that sorted it! Many thanks!!!
  20. How would I know if it's compiled into the kernel or not? I'm using MDK 10.0 and kernel-2.6.3-25?
  21. Yeah, restarted loads, but doesn't seem any different! No idea why hmmm. Any ideas? When I ran fglrxconfig, I didn't use agpgart, I said no to this, would this make a difference?

  23. Hi Soulse, I've checked and direct rendering is "No". How can I enable it? It also said "OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect". Many thanks in advance!
  24. Have MDK 10.0. Installed the ATI Radeon drivers (card is 9250, R925 version). I ran the fglrxconfig which is what I'm apparently supposed to do, but when I run glxgears, the performance is worse than my laptop. Spec of the machine is: AMD Sempron 2300, 256MB RAM, 10GB HDD, ATI Radeon 9250 128MB. The glxgears comes back with 288fps, which my laptop comes back with well over double if not more! (laptop spec is Celeron 2.2GHz, 1GB RAM, 20GB HDD - video Intel, presume 64MB). Is there anything I can do to speed this up, as the card should perform a lot better than this!!
  25. Can't seem to get sound to work. I installed alsa-1.0.8, I edited the modules.conf to put the right info in place, and then from a Konsole window in KDE, I ran alsaconf. I rebooted, and found that alsa is now loading correctly on bootup, and does so successfully, but I still can't get sound in KDE. It errors all the time. Any ideas, please help!
