I tryed OpenOffice on the kids PC, got sick of it. But I compiled the kernel for about 2 hours, then ran CPUroastK7 for a couple more hours. Before that I ran Memtest86+ for hours, then ran 15 pass's on test 5 and 7. SHould be good to go.......:D:D
-
Does compiling the kernel put on the CPU????? I want to test one of my PC's, just bumped it up a notch, to make sure for stability. I found a little script that compiles the kernel over and over and over. I also have CPU burn for K7. Thought about running them at the same time..... Any thoughts?????? Can someone help here...... Everytime I try to install something from source files the needs GTK+2.0 I get errors???? MCC tells me I have GTK+2 installed: Name: gtk+2.0 Version: 2.4.9-9mdk Size: 7880 KB I downloaded the newest Gaim, and configure failed, this is what it tells me: checking for GTK+ - version >= 2.0.0... no *** Could not run GTK+ test program, checking why... *** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the *** exact error that occurred. This usually means GTK+ is incorrectly installed. configure: error: *** GTK+ 2.0 is required to build Gaim; please make sure you have the GTK+ *** development headers installed. The latest version of GTK+ is *** always available at http://www.gtk.org/. Any ideas?????? Thanks for your time. [moved from Software by spinynorman]

I am happy to report, I reinstalled, and with a bit of finaggling I got the 66.29 drivers installed........ Please dont ask how, cause I am not sure....... I reinstalled also on my test machine, and it went off without a hitch, but when it came to my PC, the hoops I had to jump threw........wew..... https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=22912&hl=nvidia The above post helped a bit, but like I said, I am not sure what I did to get it to work. On the test machine, I uninstalled the driver and the nvidia-kernel with MCC, then installed the kernel-source, then went too init 3, and installed the driver and BANG it worked. This machine was a bit more complicated, I started to take notes on what steps I did here, but I got a bit frustrated and, well.......heh So, a big thankyou to everyone who helped/tryed to help........
-
Smorgje: I found your post, that didnt help. But no matter. I have decided to reinstall. Now I have a diffrent question, if I burn the stuff in: file:/home/ziggy/.thunderbird/******.default will that save my email?????? I was thinking not formating my Home partition, but, I did this on the kids PC and it really screwed things.....
-
That was a big waste of time........... Absoultly nothing worked........ Half temped to throw the d*mn PC's right out the window........
-
I forgot, I also have 10.1 duel boot on the kids PC, for testing and whatnot. I forgot all about that.....heh I gonna play around on there and see what I can do, then post back the results

Ok, I see the 61.11 in MCC remove, I might try to uninstall the 61.11 and nVidia-kernel then try to install the drivers. Think thats a good idea??????
-
Ok, so the quickest and easiest fix would be too reinstall eh??????? heh (microsoft has spoiled me....heh) Thats what I have installed, they match, unless I am missing something. I think the 61.11's were installed automaticly when I did the last fresh install. I dont understand what your telling me to do AussieJohn. I have only successfully installed the nVidia video drivers twice, once to the newest, then HL2 wouldn't run, so I installed the 66.29's, (now I cant find my smokes.....AHHHHHH!!!!!). Then I reinstalled cause I broke something else.....:whoops: I am beginning to go crazy........heh I can post my X86Config if it could help getting GL working without installing the newer nVidia driver. The Kernel_source I listed above came from MCC remove programs.
-
Tryed that....... bash: nvidia-update: command not found.....:(

I am trying to install nVidi 66.29 drivers. The installer keeps telling me I dont have the right Kernel source installed. This is what I have installed: Name: kernel-source-2.6 Version: 2.6.8.1-12mdk Size: 186389 KB Running the uname -a gives me this: Linux localhost 2.6.8.1-12mdk #1 Fri Oct 1 12:53:41 CEST 2004 i686 AMD Athlon XP-M unknown GNU/Linux I currently have 61.11 drivers installed. I want to update the drivers because I somehow broke the 61.11's GLXINFO: name of display: :0.0 display: :0 screen: 0 direct rendering: No I discovered they were broke when I tryed to play some BF1942 last night, GLXGears runs, but slower then I remember: 31941 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6388.200 FPS 31947 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6389.400 FPS 31947 frames in 5.0 seconds = 6389.400 FPS I have been going insane here trying to fix the current install, or installing the newer drivers. I am using the PowerPack install version of 10.1, I got it from a friend who got sick of playing with it. I notice I could get the nVidia-kernel from thac's, should I try this????? I also tryed with the kernel-source-path with the drivers, I am assuming, they are in /usr/src/linux-***. I also searched everywhere I could think of, but with no luck, hence this post.........:D Thanks for your time.........

Yes, the printer "was" shared on the windows Machine. Last night I got rather PO'd, and temporarly moved it to the Linux machine, took all of 5 minutes and had it shared on the network, and installed on the Windows machines. Might move it back, once I get the shares set up for my Dad and my Kids. (It almost sound like I am living with my parents and have a family of my own, well, I kind of do. I purchased a upper and lower duplex, and my parents live downstairs. Just thought I would clarify....:D)
-
Can someone please explain why nothing will see the printer, which is hooked to the kids XPee machine, except for this: [slagathor@localhost slagathor]$ smbclient -L kids -N Domain=[KIDS] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] Sharename Type Comment --------- ---- ------- IPC$ IPC Remote IPC D$ Disk Default share print$ Disk Printer Drivers D Disk ADMIN$ Disk Remote Admin BOINC Disk C$ Disk Default share Printer Printer HP DeskJet 882C (Copy 1) Domain=[KIDS] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager] Server Comment --------- ------- Workgroup Master --------- ------- I really want to use it on here, and hooking it direct to Linux box is not an option...:( I can browse the files on the pc, change files on the pc, but cant get to the printer...... (Sorry if I sounded rude in last post, I appologise if offended anyone)
-
Well that didnt work, also, I could browse the windows shares, but couldnt see the printer. I did this: smbclient -L kids -N and sure enough the printer showed up there, but thats the only place. I am reinstalling, maybe that will help......heh
-
Or, any assistance for that matter......heh I am trying to get a folder on my PC for my Dad so he can upload stuff for me to burn to cd. Anywase, I have Samba installed, I can see if from the XPee box's but I cant get in, which I figured was normal, but, I try to do the smbpasswd -a dad I get this error. [root@localhost slagathor]# smbpasswd -a dad New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: Failed to initialise SAM_ACCOUNT for user dad. Does this user exist in the UNIX password database ? Failed to modify password entry for user dad So then I try the smbuseradd and I get command not found...... Any suggestions.??!??!?!!!!

Just tryed to install from Norlug and same thing happines...... But this time I cant fire it up from console. This is just crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!! EDIT: OOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is working now, no clue why.........heh
-
I will keep trying, although it's just crazy......heh Got my vid drivers installed with minimal hair removal, But cant get Firefox to work this time.....ROTFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ok, got sick of trying.....hehe Opera works great......:D:D
-
Welp, tryed your suggestion, and tryed what the other thread said to do, I am stumped. The only way to fire it up is to su to root and fire it up that way. And that sux....heh I will keep trying, plus I am able to look at kids PC once and see whats up on there. Cause it works great over there. (daughter finally of it...heheee)

I hope this is in the right spot....... Ok, installed 10.1. Then decided to use FireFox browser. Downloaded the tar installer, everything went fine, but I can only launch it from a console logged in a root. Any ideas what I have done wrong???? I also have 10.1 on the kids PC and installed the same way (almost positive I did it the same way :D ) and everything works great. Anyideas????? Thanks for your time....
