Installation
------------

To install the Plug-in Player for Linux via an install script, follow these directions:
- This installer is script-based and cannot be run from a GUI.
- Uncompress install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz. A directory called install_flash_player_7_linux is created. Navigate to this directory.
- From the command line, type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer. The installer will instruct you to shut down your browser(s).
- Once the installation is complete, the plug-in will be installed in your Mozilla browser. To verify, choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser's menu.

To manually install the Plug-in Player for Linux, follow these directions:

- Copy the following files to your browser's plugins folder:
libflashplayer.so
flashplayer.xpt

+ I copied all my plugins in the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory and I created a link named plugins in my firefox directory (/usr/share/firefox for me) that points to this directory (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins)

when starting Firefox (or Mozilla or Galeon or Epiphany or whatever you want based on mozilla), just write about:plugins in the nav bar. You'd see all informations about your active plugins (i.e. flash, java, realplayer, ...).

here's my about:plugins feedback:

Here are the packages I used for Mandriva LE 2005:

- [JAVA] jre-1_5_0_02-linux-i586.rpm

- [REAL PLAYER] RealPlayer10GOLD.rpm

Here are the files in my /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory:

- flashplayer.xpt

- libflashplayer.so

- libjavaplugin_oji.so

- libmozsvgdec.so

- libnullplugin.so

- nphelix.so

- nphelix.xpt

- nppdf.so

I hope that can help you.

I want to do it from the command line...

this is what I do

I click on the little computer screen in the taskbar called terminal program and then once in there I type

su root

then I enter the password then I type

ls Desktop/flash/flashplayer-installer

it acknowledges that it's there but it just doesn't do anything

From the command line, type ./flashplayer-installer to run the installer.

I know that.. but if I type

ls Desktop/flash

then press enter then type

./flashplayer-intaller

it doesn't do anything... if I type dir after typing

ls Desktop/flash

it shows me as if I'm still in the home directory it'll say

Desktop TMP

and if I type

ls Desktop

then type

ls flash

to go in the flash directory it will just say no such file or directory..

well ... step by step ...

1/ go in the directory where is your install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz file

2/ in command line type: tar xzf install_flash_player_7_linux.tar.gz (so easy in konqueror ...)

3/ the directory install_flash_player_7_linux will be created

4/ go in this directory: cd install_flash_player_7_linux

5/ run the installer (as root): ./flashplayer-installer

voilà.
