scoopy
I had always thought this would work: [root@localhost scoopy]# drakfloppy guess its been broken a while now. Just wanted to be sure you knew this was an option. You could set LILO to boot XP by default in drakboot in Mandrake's control center. Or by editing etc/lilo.conf default="linux" and changing linux to your windows partition.
Pzatch
When you install just have the boot loader written to a floppy instead of the MBR or anyplace else on the hard drive. Works perfect on a standard floppy. Thats exactly how I'm testing out 9.2. No need to worry about jamming the whole kernel onto a floppy. No need for any special formatting either. I accidentaly put mine on an old email txt file disk from windows and it still works.
aRTee
I second what Pzatch says. There are 2 types of bootfloppies: 1) with the kernel etc on them 2) with only the bootloader on them. I use the second type to boot to mdk9.2, without the floppy the system boots 9.1 / the previous system.
randomnut
Oh, right. I always assumed that it was just the bootloader that was put on the floppy, thats why ive been so confused! so during install it lets you choose just the bootloader on the floppy? Pzatch
Yep! It then never touches your Xp boot loader(yes Xp has one). Just make sure you have your bios set to boot floppy>cdrom>HDD or floppy>hdd>cdrom Either way if the floppy is not in its just skipped and jumps to windows.
