Z3RatuL
Hello to all! I'm a totaly newbie in this and just installed Mandrake 9.0 and so I used the GUI to install the modem through MCC... I've searched the internet and downloaded a .pdf file from my modem vendor saying how can I connect. They say that I have to type the following command at the console to make it work: ln -s /dev/ttyS1 /dev/modem (if your modem is connected at com port 2, which my modem is at com2) When I execute the command (hit enter) console says that there is already a /dev/modem and nothing happens... I have an ISDN modem (Netmod v 3.77 Greece) and everything seems to work fine when I go through KPPP and query my modem. I'm getting an answer with all the modem commands, so I guess it's working, well I'm wrong! Cause when I try to connect, KPPP sticks at the initializing modem... screen and nothing happens! When I try with GNOMEPPP I get an error saying it can't set the modem volume at the setting I specified and stops trying! As I said I'm a tottaly newbie, please help if you can. THANKS IN ADVANCE Edited November 17, 2003 by Z3RatuL
DragonMage
When you run kppp, try doing it with the log on. it may show you some error messages like maybe the wrong AT command used.
Leo
I had the exact same problem, it turned out to be a problem with the drivers for the modem. Have you checked for updated drivers (you can find the necessary files either by googling or asking for assistance here) Leo Edited after reading original post properly Edited November 18, 2003 by Leo
