truekaiser
any reason why it doesn't come with the source like normal? it kind of makes it hard to compile your chipset drivers when the kernel on the disc and the source on the mandrake update? Ixthusdan
The number one unanswered question with this release! You should up-grade the kernel anyway, and install those sources.
Gowator
Serious question ANYWAY.... somewhat related. After lots of hassle with the stock kernels in 9.1 I eventually went back to the plain -13 and recompiled with the RPM .config. The ONLY differences being K7 chipset support and 4GB HIMEM. However, I now find lots of symbols missing..esp for the nforce drivers for my MOBO. From what I can tell, this can't be the same kernel source as was used for the pre-compiled x586 binary as installed from the CD's. I just don't get it...... ANYONE know WHY? or what differences ?? liquidzoo
I recompiled the 9.2 kernel on my laptop using aru's FAQ and the srpm. I didn't do any changes to the kernel...yet. This method worked for me. You can find the srpms at http://rpmfind.net Just be aware, if you do decide to go this route, the new kernel takes a long time to compile (8+ hours on a P4 1.7) since it builds all possible variations of the kernel in the process. Not sure how to change this...
Ixthusdan
Actually, there is an rpm released in updates for the new kernel and the sources. That's what I have done twice with 9.2, and the new kernel worked fine both times. (2 different installs)
