No seriously, run gaim and in about 5 mintues, I cant play anything requioring sound. Anyone know a fix. (fredora Core 1, updated)
Steve Scrimpshire
I don't know the fix, but when you stop being able to use sound after using Gaim, try this as root in a terminal: fuser /dev/dsp and then kill -s 9 <<put the all the numbers you see from above command, each separated by a space>> That should give you back control of your sound. Web java always does this to me...processes won't let go of /dev/dsp. Edited November 15, 2003 by Steve Scrimpshire
DragonMage
Or another thing, gaim uses esd as default sound method (it is from gaim option screen). It seems that it likes to load esd to play sound, but forgot to unload it again. Kill esd from a console and try running your sound application again.
