Earny
After installing mandrake 9.2 my superuser filemanger disappeared. I regard this as one of the most practical tools. The only way to manage files is by using the terminal or by using Konquerer Home. However, the last option tells me over and over again that the access to certain directories or files is denied. How do I get it back? Thanks in advance
paCkeTroUTer
you mean its not there in Applications>> File tools>> File Manager ?
chris:b
No, it isn't in 9.2 You get it back creating a new shortcut/icon on your desktop. Execute command is: konqueror. Then check: run (or execute??, sorry no English version here) as different user. If you want a konsole su: execute command is: konsole Check the 'run as different user' In Gnome btw I found the neat little gnomesu, works the same way. Earny
Thanks maatje, Can I use root as the other user? So I did but after clicking the new icon, nothing happens (other than that the system asked me the password and the "zandloper" in the manuba)r. What did I do wrong? Also logging in as root in Konsole and type konquerer didn bring me far.
chris:b
Don'T fill in a user, just leave it empty! And the command is konqueror (with an 'o')

chris:b
 And if you want your screensavers working (mine did not): In a terminal su to root, cd to /usr/share, then type: ln -s ./applnk-mdk/.hidden ./applnk-mdk.hidden Go to the KDE settings, (configure your desktop), look and feel, screensavers, there they are! kkrekula
The screensaver tip worked like a charm. Thanks, Kenneth

Earny
He he, After a totally new install of 9.2 (I was forced to) the trick with the screensavers doesn't work anymore. This is also true for starting rpms from the filemanager (konqueror)
chris:b
When you did a standard install I am almost sure that you are missing some or maybe a lot of kde packages. They are now separated. Go to the MCC, software install, search for kde - and install them all (except the devel rpm's, if you don't plan to compile kde software). Screensavers are in kdeartwork.blala.rpm
Earny
I did, but no effect. Screensafers limited to blank screen and random
chris:b
Do you have some of these: /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KBanner.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KBlob.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KBouboule.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KEuphoria.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KFlux.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KFountain.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KGravity.desktop /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/KLines-saver.desktop ...?? Earny
No, the only items in the directory are Kblankscreen, Krandom, Krozat and Ktux. The last two items don't appear in the menu in config/kde/look and feel/screensaver.
chris:b
Ok, *my* way would be now - but its a nasty way: - uninstall the kdeartwork ...rpm - delete the link in your /usr/share (the link you have set, that is ... - reinstall the kdeartwork package - set the link again LOL, I've nooo idea if this works.
