manza7
Folks, I encountered a strange situation with my network: W2K PCs + 1 MD Linux . MD can ping all W2K PCs, however, none of the W2K PCs can ping MD . SAMBA works fine and all W2K PC can see a share directory in MD and share files . Auto start VNCserver (tightvnc) but nothing happens after launching viewer from W2K Something missing on the network side? Net browsing from MD no problem thru linksys. I am puzzled, please help. Thanks
fuzzylizard
How are you trying to ping the MD machines - using the ip address or the hostname? Generally, if you can access a share on the machine, then you can also ping the machine. However, you may not be able to ping using the hostname, just he IP address. MottS
. Auto start VNCserver (tightvnc) but nothing happens after launching viewer from W2K The viewer will not find the server by itself. You have to enter the IP of the server in the box + the virtual display number. Something like 192.168.1.1:1 the :1 depends on which display you started the vncserver on the linux box. I mean, if you starts the vncserver like vncserver :1 then the :1 is ok. Otherwise change the :1 for your display number. Also, did you install a firewall or something ..? That may cause you problems accessing the vncserver. Vncserver works of weird ports numbers.. MOttS
