scoopy
Me thinks I got the same problem here, but I have a TNT 2 nividia card here instead. Tried installing mplayer .90-0.rc4.4mdk and .92-0.1plf om my fresh install of Mandy 9.1. I can open up a 320x240 mpeg file, which plays fine, but when I select normal, double, or full screen size, the movie stays at 320x240, while the window does change and fills with a black background. Now I somehow happen to have a copy of the config file from my previous Mandy install on same system and see that I had the xv driver selected in the preferences. But now when I chooose this in preferences, I get this: "Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device" I get this from Konsole: It seems there is no Xvideo support for your video card available. Run 'xvinfo' to verify its Xv support, and read Xv section of DOCS/video.html ! so I run xvinfo: [scoopy@localhost scoopy]$ xvinfo X-Video Extension version 2.2 screen #0 no adaptors present What vo drivers do I have? [scoopy@localhost scoopy]$ mplayer -vo help MPlayer 0.92-3.2.2 (C) 2000-2003 MPlayer Team Reading config file /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf Reading config file /home/scoopy/.mplayer/config Available video output drivers: xv X11/Xv x11 X11 ( XImage/Shm ) xmga Matrox G200/G4x0/G550 overlay in X11 window (using /dev/mga_vid) mga Matrox G200/G4x0/G550 overlay (/dev/mga_vid) gl X11 (OpenGL) gl2 X11 (OpenGL) - multiple textures version dga DGA ( Direct Graphic Access V2.0 ) sdl SDL YUV/RGB/BGR renderer (SDL v1.1.7+ only!) ggi General Graphics Interface (GGI) output fbdev Framebuffer Device aa AAlib dxr3 DXR3/H+ video out png PNG file jpeg JPEG file gif89a animated GIF output null Null video output pgm PGM file md5 MD5 sum mpegpes Mpeg-PES to DVB card yuv4mpeg yuv4mpeg output for mjpegtools (to "stream.yuv") vesa VESA VBE 2.0 video output xvidix X11 (VIDIX) Presently I am trying to find a fix in the documentation stated above, but no luck yet. It worked without all this last install.

scoopy
I figured out what I needed to do... install a nvidia driver. Once I did that, I went back into preferences and selected the xv driver. Now I can scale videos from normal to full screen again. I had forgotten all about installing a video driver cause everything else I use was working fine with the default. I would guess a new ATI driver install would help things on your end.
