Steve Scrimpshire Posted September 13, 2003 Report Share Posted September 13, 2003 Here is my setup: Internet -> Cable Modem -> Win2kBox -> Eth Card on Win2KBox connects to Eth Card on LinuxBox with crossover cable -> LinuxBox running Apache I have Apache listening on 192.168.0.14 which is the IP address of the eth card that connects to the Win2K box. I can access it fine from inside the network, either from itself or from the Win2K box. I have an account with no-ip.com and I clicked on the internet connection for the cable modem in Win2K, clicked the Sharing Tab and then clicked settings. I went to Services and put in port 80 and selected TCP then put in the IP for my LinuxBox 192.168.0.14, but it won't forward. Outside connections to port 80 still go to the Windows box. What am I doing wrong? (I've rebooted the Windows box. No dice.) I know my ISP is not blocking port 80, because I can see it when I run the scan at grc.com. TIA. fuzzylizard Posted September 13, 2003 Report Share Posted September 13, 2003 Okay, just for a little clarification here - you are running one windows 2000 computer with 2 network cards in it - you are running a Linux box with a single network card - you have the cable modem connected to the win2k box in eth1 - and you have the linux box connect to the win2k box through eth2 right? And you have internet sharing turned on? My first suggestion would to go and get a cable/dsl router/firewall and use that. This will solve all of your problems. However, in order to solve this one, I think a little more info is needed. Last question, do you have any firewall software running on either computer? I tried searching for this on google groups, but have yet to find anything. My suggestion - get the little dsl/cable router and it will solve all your problems. Will keep looking for ya though. Steve Scrimpshire Posted September 14, 2003 Author Report Share Posted September 14, 2003 I found a site that said port forwarding is disabled by default in Win2K and I editted the registry to try to fix it and rebooted, but still no dice. Guess this is a Windows issue and soon I will buy an extension for my cable and move the cable modem over to my Linux box and use Linux to share the connection with the Win2k box. Thanks anyway.
