I chose erase entire drive and reboot

I then click next and reformat begins, then get back to the loading packages and so on and son on

and internet station

I have no other operating system installed on this drive

I have tried every which way and can't get past that screen.

No I didn't check them this time. Was not sure what the sums should be.

I had them for 9.2 beta 2 and still had many problems geting Linux installed, so I gavce up and thought I would try the RC1

I was not sure wich file to use with md5summer on the FTP site.

Hope you still got the iso's ...

Go to your MDK FTP and klick on this 9.2rc1.md5sums.asc Link. Save the site as text document into the folder where your iso's are.

Open a Console ... switch to the directory, where your iso's are in and type :

md5sum -c 9.2rc1.md5sums.asc

Your iso' s get checked then ... the output will show you if they're ok.

Edited

I forgot to ask : You wrote that you are a newbie. You (maybe) will not be happy with a beta or an rc of MDK ... did you ever thought of using MDK 9.1 ?

Just a question ... ;)

Ok will do thanks. I was trying to use the asc file with md5summer. this seems way easier :D

I will let you know how they turned out.

I saved the file as a text file to my ISO's folder and ran MD5summer

and it shows them as good.

burnt them to CD's using Nero 6.0 beta

I do have ISORecorder power toy for XP also

anyway I still have the same problem.

Yes I am thinking I should try a released version now. I have used and built computers since the early 80's using Windows, but can see Linux is way different.

Is MDK 9.1 FREE?

I would like to get a Linux system to form my own views of Linux verses

Windows XP.

If you go to the download link at the top of our page, you will find the 3 iso files for 9.1, along with the md5sum.

The first thing you will notice between xp and linux, is that mandrake is not reporting your movements and activities to France, where as windex is reporting anything it can about you to Redmond. No, it didn't ask for your permission, it just does it. You see, you don't own xp. You paid to be allowed to use it and microblast figures you owe them something. No, your money wasn't enough!

Download the three CDs from the 20th. I don't know what the March 17th ones are about but they seem to be earlier versions of the last two CDs.

Glitz.

PS. Maybe you should try installing in expert mode. I had no problems installing 9.1rc1 that way. Okay, well there were some problems but not the one you mentioned.

I have even tried using expert install

I do the usual up to the package selection

I choose

Configuration

Console tools

Development

LSB

WEB/FTP

MAIL

and KDE

I was adding some individual packages such as extra apache modules and adding Imap to the mail and openssh for remote access, but tried without the individual packages in case that was the issue.

I'm gonna try on a different systemt (currently failing on an amd k62 400 with integrated video)

I used the exact same cds on my Asus a7v8x/barton2500 system and it worked without a hitch.

Maybe there are some strange hardware incompatibilities???

My system that DOESN'T work is an amd k62-400 on a via vt8501 with 128mb of ram. Not sure of the mboard manufacturer as the system was just given to me to turn into a test mail/webmail server.
