Guest BooYah
I'd like to see those round corners and transparent menus. To update fluxbox can I just untar the newer one, configure it and make it? Or do I need to unistall the old one first?
bvc
You might want verification from someone who has done this with flux, but I don't see any reason you can't: example; if your current install is in /usr either check the Makefile to make sure the install is to /usr/local, or ./configure --prefix=/usr/local So, to start the new /usr/local/bin/fluxbox instead of /usr/bin/fluxbox In other words, everything will go to /usr/local/bin and share etc.... I've done the opposite....from /usr/local to /usr without probs with waimea.
phazeman
you can also get the RPM from my repository: ftp://polop.usc.edu/pub/phazeman/9.1/i586 The RPm is working. It was tested by few people. Just get the fluxbox*.rpm
iphitus
There is also a cooker RPM, it is surprisingly very stable, so far, it's crashed once. I've had it a few weeks now. Just do a search on rpmfind.net it'll be there somewhere. (I'm using 0.9.4-2mdk i think) James
hea
I installed the 0.9.4 (make) without uninstalling the old 0.1.14 last week and I havent had any problems 8) (so far...)
liquidzoo
I just now upgraded from 0.1.14 to 0.9.4-3mdk using the src.rpm at rpmfind.net. Works great!
SoulSe
I tried it and it keeps restarting X and giving other really annoying errors, so I am staying away from it until it is more complete.
liquidzoo
One thing I failed to mention is the fact that I backed out of X before I did the upgrade. Not sure if this has anything to do with anything.
SoulSe
Probably not... What I did was first uninstall the old Fluxbox (all your settings remain in your home folder under .fluxbox) and then install the new one.
liquidzoo
Well, since I installed the new version I have not had one single problem with it restarting X. I never had a problem with the older version either, though. One thing I don't really like in the new version (maybe it was in the older one too, I just never noticed) is that my icons on fbdesk are always on top, no matter what. Not a huge deal, and like I said: could be something to do with fbdesk, not flux. Just doesn't look right.
