Will this card work with MDK 9.1? I've googled and searched here, but cannot find specific info. Adding the word 'Compaq' in a Google/Linux search always gives me a bunch of links about Compaq laptops. It is model number 243658. This one:

There's a guide to getting a USB wireless adapter working (in ML 9.0 even) here: http://www.jennings.homelinux.net/actiontec.html I looked it over, it involves recompiling the kernel. There's even a reference to DOlson's kernel tutorial there!

Don't know about your specific adapter, but the steps should be generally the same.

Ok, this way might be easier:

Got it:

From inside Mandrake, launch the Mandrake Control Center (You may have to enter your root password). Then select "Network and Internet", the click on "DrakConnect helps you set up your network and Internet connection" , then click on "Wizard" from there I selected both "Auto Detection and Expert Mode".

Then select only "Lan Connection - ethernet ..." click next. From there if you already have another adaptor (I have the SIS integrated 900 ethernet), select "yes" to Do you have another one ?

From the list given, select usbvnet_rfmd(ATMEL 503A USB CARD), click next,

Next question again: Do you have another one ?, click no, click next,

Just keep clicking yes until the following question is asked:

The network needs to be restarted. Do you want to restart it ?

select yes.

You should be almost done. If the internet does not work at this point, I would just reboot and try to connect to the internet after the reboot,

Again, not for your specific adapter (Belkin this time) but it should work. Full thread here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/52862
