adamw
Mandriva is co-ordinating an international Install Fest for the new Mandriva Linux 2009 release, on November 22nd, 2008. If you are involved with a LUG or other community group and would be interested in running a local event as part of the Install Fest, Mandriva will provide professionally pressed One CDs and other material. Visit the Wiki page for details of how to organize an event in your area, and for a list of already confirmed events, if you'd like to see if there's one in your local area! scoonma
Will there be a Mandriva Linux Install Fest after the release of 2009.1, too? Actually I was planning to participate with well - the more users from my circle of friends the better - but on November, 22nd I have a private date which cannot be canceled - I hate these collisions... Reiver_Fluffi
Never saw the attraction of such events, a bunch of grown men (maybe a few women) installing an OS and making a party of it. Does not sound like a highlight on the old social calendar to me, but then maybe I'm not geeky enough to appreciate the supposed merits of such an event.

tyme
Never saw the attraction of such events, a bunch of grown men (maybe a few women) installing an OS and making a party of it.Actually, you seem to miss the point. The idea is to spread the word and use of Linux by helping those who want to install it, but don't have the know-how - or to answer questions for those who HAVE installed it, but need help using it. It's not so much a party as a "learning session". The attraction is to help others, and/or to learn more. Considering your involvement with this board, I think looking at it in this way will help you see the merits. scoonma
Yeah, I perceived it more as a Teach-In than a real party, too. However the notion Teach-In may seem oldschool today. :-)
