OpenOffice.org Memory Usage

I found this tip while reading a review of Ark Linux on Newsforge, its meant to make OpenOffice go faster. Haven't had a chance to test it yet, but if anyone is interested:

 

Optimizing Software:  

While I was on IRC, the suggestion was made to change the memory option within OpenOffice.org from the default 9 to 32 (Tools | options memory). After this change, OOo flew.

Wow, that really makes  a difference.

 

So, lemme get this straight, OOo is slow to start on all but the fastest of hardware because by default it is limited to 9mb ram?

Well why don't they change the default!!!!!

No i think it is more that there is a lot of libraries to load on first startup. 1.1rc is much faster at loading.

The memory tip is for once it is loaded up i think, operations within speadsheets etc
