Guest anon
Welcome to the board. A red desktop with no icons you say?? Thats what you get when you boot into kde as root. Did you not create a user on install??
Guest akiwi
Hi Paul Thanks for the reply. I did not add a user, only root. Have had a quick look at some of the files you sent. Not sure what to do with them,ie download and install them to present linux configuration. KPPP and audio have been a problem for me after installing Mandrake 9.1. Appreciate any solutions to have Mandrake 9.1 up and runing. Will add a user on next install regards maurice
Ixthusdan
If you add a user now, and log in to that user, you will see a nicer desktop, and more eye candy.

Ixthusdan
Your emails are all autogenerated by the server, and are signed by the owner, who is paul. Several of us will no doubt be answering any of you questions.....maybe even paul!! There is no need to reinstall linux in order to have different users. There are two places you can do it in graphic user interface (gui): Mandrake Control Center and the kde control center. In both cases, you will be asked for a password. Use your root password. Germ
save the file to a directory and use RPM in a terminal to re-install it. rpm -Fvh <package name> You can combine options. -F will freshen the install. -v will tell you what's going on -h will show a hash mark progress bar /germ
