'Hibernate' mode

Somehow, when I leave my MD Desktop, my machine will still perform and my fan make a lot of noise. I read an article about a 'hibernate' mode that might be useful, or is that only for Notebooks/Laptops?

Also, what can I do to minimize resources usage when I'm away?

well, if you have apm enabled, you could suspend the machine. not sure if its the same as 'hibernate', but its what I use on my PII laptop instead of shutting down and rebooting all the time. do and rpm -qa | grep apm

or an apmd.

If you've got it, you can use /usr/bin/apm -s (and make it an icon on your desktop) to suspend.

Good luck,

Robert
