New hardware and Linux

How many poeple have bought hardware and found instructions for Linux included? The reason I ask is that I bought a new SmartMedia reader at the weekend and was amazed to find detailed Linux instructions included on the CD. This got me wondering, I've always managed to find instructions for my hardware (often from the manufacture) but never before in the box.

On my graphics card, in the manual, it explicitly said the hardware GPU was fully supported.

I have seen a samsung laser printer (cheap!) with large letters on the box: Windows and Linux compatible (RH7.2 or so was mentioned).

My motherboard had audio drivers for linux included, and a friend just bought a similar board where also the onboard LAN driver was included, with the instructions (readme) in the same dir on how to compile and use them...

Yes, it is happening.

What was the make of that MoBo?

If we discover hardware manufacturers like this, we need to tell each other about them, support their products and email them with letters of praise :P

I'll double on that samsung one. Their products are mostly now linux compatible, or at least anything new. They've got an advertising campaign going now and on all the signs it has "Windows, Linux and Mac compatible"

On the otherhand another company has gone on a huge advertising campaign. And this company is the least friendly of all. Micro$oft have been heavily promoting their freebies like MSN Messenger, Moviemaker and Winblows Media Player and saying how "wonderfull" they are. The advertisements are everywhere, bus stops, bill boards, radio, tv, even one of my favorite TV shows now had prizes supplied my Microsoft. and they are so annoying!!!!! And with them probably going to have a big dividend payout to their shareholders, it looks like they are trying to improve their image.

Anyway a good game let out any frustration is Xbill, get it by "urpmi xbill" it's on contrib.

Sorry to go offtopic

LG cd roms and burnners. I bought 1 first of the year, and loved it so much I bought another one a couple weeks ago. Says right on the box in the OSs supported, Linux along with the rest of so called OS.

Also had a 5610 U.S. Robotics PCI Pro modem that says it supports linux on the box as well. However, I lost that modem to lightning. :( I will be getting another one soon.
