Serious bandwith delay with Mandrake Bamboo as gateway

I have just installed a new router at home on a P100 and ADSL is blisteringly fast.

 

If you are going to use the Mdk PC as the firewall you first need to get the networking running faultlessly without it working as a router too.

 

I could look through your shorewall conf (although I'm no expert at shorewall) but first you need to isolate where the problem is.

 

If you turn shorewall off and still don't have good internet access from the firewall PC to the internet it won't work for the other PC's.

 

Once you have a good internet connection from the mdk box when its not acting as a gw/firewall/router then you can tune the shorewall but you need to be 100% sure you have good access before you do this otherwise its just too many different variables.

 

It could be your subnet mask or dns resolution or lots of things but its difficult to know until the firewall is disabled. If it works with it diabled and your happy with the connection then you can play with shorewall.

I gave up with the Mdk configured one and just used the shorewall one from their website. Once I did that everything worked fine and the documentation made sense but the documentation, especially the quick starts doesn't work with the mdk configured one.
