bigjohn
Gowator, erm sorry it's taken me so long to reply, but yes, when I kept getting the problem of the "line 150 speedtouch.sh", for a while the only way I could cure it was to re-install the whole OS. This added to my annoyance at having to wait for the speedtouch to re-initialise between OS's so I got a modem router from http://www.solwise.co.uk/modems.htm called a SAR110 and a network card from pcworld. Even then, being totally new to network type stuff, I just couldn't follow what they were telling me to do. So I just rang Solwise, and someone in the technical dept talked me through the proceedure for both wind0w$ and mandrake linux. I was up and running in less than 10 minutes. they also run their own forum with was mega helpful for post install set up stuff. I can't enthuse enough about the modem/router, it's excellent. I've only had to reboot once in the time i've had it (got to be about 9 months now) and i can happily jump between OS's without a concern in the world. regards John

Guest madmanc
my origanal problem was that my usb bus was shot, would not even work under windows in fact it crashed every time the modem started.. so with a new computer i managed to get it to connect with the built in mandrake wizard. but would not connect there and then, but it did when i re-started, though mandrake still said that it was not connected, but when i typed ifconfig i had eth0 on ethernet lo :which i think means loopback ppp0 :with my ip address and everything but when i tryed to browse the internet it just said unable to resolve host? Was able to type in yahoo.com's ip address and connect to their main page, But when you try to move on you get unable to resolve host. Even with shorewall off. could this be the DNS hope some one can help madmanc
Steve Scrimpshire
Yes. That's almost surely going to be a problem with DNS. Look in your /etc/resolv.conf file and make sure the right dns servers are listed for your isp. You may have to put them in there manually. Guest madmanc
:D :D  :D got it sorted!! it took a coupple of weeks and i learnt a lot about linux!! the first problem was a broke pc well everything worked but the usb?. the second was all i had to do is use drak connect i think its called and it configed the modem its self, the mistake i made is that you have to enter your dns servers manualy, which could be a problem if the isp decides to change theres. i tryed Steve Scrimpshire tuttorial to the letter but was never able to get the modem_run ect command to work, but thats proberly because im such a neewbie (do you have to do anything to mgmt.o to get modem run to work?). i would like to say thanks to everyone who has helped me over the last few week i have learnt alot thanks all madmanc
