Bootloader probs

why did you restore the windows bootloader?

anyways...I would use the rescue disks (yes, again) to restore lilo.

I did a search for bad IPL, and, well, I got something but I don't think it will help you unless you're looking for intensive pulse light photorejuvenation to improve the look of your skin :huh:

in other words, I'm not sure what exactly the Bad IPL message means.

ok :) we'll work on that.

when you select Windows from the LILO list, what do you get?

(from my understanding the bad IPL error occured when you had the windows bootloader installed...)

I would suggest commenting out:

        table=/dev/hdb

       map-drive=0x80

          to=0x81

       map-drive=0x81

from your lilo.conf file (that is, put a # in front of it). Then run lilo (as root) and then try choosing windows from the LILO list.

It says "Remove disks or other media

Press any key to restart"

I press a key.

"Invalid Boot Diskette

Insert BOOT diskette A:"

Of Course there isnt anything in the floppy drive.

I'll try commenting it out now,

Mark

How do you edit the lilo.conf file? Is it through the konsole or something because i can't seem to save it because of permissions and can't chnage the permissions. :?:

If you don't love the command line, do this: click the KDE icon in lower left corner,all apllications,applications, file tools,file manager - super user mode (password) browse from there.

Note that you are missing the last line of:

other=/dev/hdb1

label="win"

table=/dev/hdb

map-drive=0x80

to=0x81

map-drive=0x81

to=0x80

Might be the answer

:wink:

Nope thats not it, its there. Probaly forgot to copy the last line. :roll:

Hmm, i'll try grub

Doesn't work with grub either. Maybe my windows is fubar. Maybe linux wasn't meant to happen with this computer because i need windows for some programs. I'll just have to install in on other computer :?
