malfist
When I've been mounting my network shares or windows partitions I can't access them except through /mnt/x, in ubuntu it would put an icon on the desktop and menu like a tumbdrive or external harddrive. How can I make mandriva do that?
{BBI}Nexus{BBI}
Do Alt & F2 type kcontrol then go to Desktop--> Behaviour--> Device Icons. To add it to the Kmenu go to Panels--> Menus--> Optional menus and put a checkmark in System Menu. You should also be able to access them via your home folder. Just click the System icon then go to Storage Media. Edited July 19, 2007 by {BBI}Nexus{BBI}
malfist
I'm running GNOME, I don't think that would work...
scoonma
Which version of Mandriva are you using? How do you mount your network folders? Â When mounting a network folder here using ssh, an icon pops up on the desktop as it should (by using the menu: Locations/Connection to server/...) malfist
I think it is the 2007 version, I use smb4k to mount the network shares because for some reason MCC can't find them through samba but smb4k can.
scoonma
Hm. The urpmi doc of smb4k tells me: Â "...An SMB network and share browser for KDE 3.1 or later." Â In your stead I'd first try to add a network folder using your GNOME menu (Locations/Connect to server; then choose Windows for connection type and add rest of information needed). Otherwise you could install "gnomba", which seems to serve the same purpose as smb4k, but inside a GNOME environment.
malfist
No luck, the gnome connect to server thingy can't find it and the only thing gnomba can find is an empty network.
scoonma
Did you manually enter samba data for your windows connection share or try to find it automatically? (A good point to re-check all relevant smb settings). Maybe try running an nmbd additionally?
adamw
If you can mount them successfully as /mnt/X with the Mandriva tools, then all you need to do is manually create a desktop shortcut pointing to that location, which is really pretty easy.
