Guest kpuchatek
Hi, I have a problem with sound on my laptop - it plays, however quality is poor (sound is distorted, looks like breaks). It happens in Chromium, FrozenBooble, Tux Racer. It is pure Mandriva 2007 Spring installation without any changes, sound HW is Intel ICH6 + Realtek ALC880. I know a lot of people reporting problem with no sound on hda-intel, but my case looks different. Any idea how to solve it ? I've tried to compile latest alsa 1.0.14 but it gives me error when building alsa-utils :-(
ianw1974
Sounds like the usual "your volume is set to high" scenario. Check your volume levels, and lower them because this is why. I've had it too, I just adjusted one of them for the main sound, and then raised the master volume as and when I needed.
scarecrow
Yes, I also think the same as Ian... do the usual stuff as root: # amixer set Master 90% unmute # amixer set PCM 85% unmute # alsactl store ...and see how it goes.

I don't think so it is problem with sound level, but will try anyway. Unfortunately by playing with building alsa, I have removed sound completely Need to restore first.
