kwin & beryl problems

hi, i installed mandriva 2007.0 on my pc and i have an nvidia 7300se video card.

i installed the proper nvidia linux drivers for that card.

from the first installation, i can't get any windowmanager started !! when i start my pc, after everything is loaded, it asks me to insert root password for kwin app. just this way i can have the right screen, otherwise windows appears without the upper bar (where we can see the icons for closing a window, minimizing it and to maximizing it )...

if i try to install beryl or compiz, everything is installed but nothing can run properly.

if i try to change my xorg.conf, the system automatically rename it as xorg.conf.old and load a new xorg.conf with wrong configuration...

then read this:

[stefano@localhost ~]$ beryl
**************************************************************
* Beryl system compatiblity check *
**************************************************************

Detected xserver : NVIDIA

Checking Display :0 ...

Checking for XComposite extension : failed

No composite extension
134544637 screens detected.
Currently we cannot guarantee that Beryl will work correctly with multiple X screens.
Using the --no-context-share command line option can help.
Please report any success to the beryl developer mailing list. The list can be found at lists.beryl-project.org

what can i do?

thanks for help

As far as I know MDV 2007.0 is still using an old version of Beryl.

The Xcomposite error could indicate that you are missing one of these in your xorg.conf:

- Option "Composite" (under section "extensions")

or

- Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" (under section "device")

But I guess this should be setup automatically when you enable native 3d and beryl from the MCC
